Karimun Jawa Marine National Park
General
The Marine National Park Karimun Jawa is 110,000 ha and lies 90 km north east of Jepara in Central Java. The park consists of a group of 27 small coral islands on which you'll find mangrove forest and beach forest. Only seven of these islands are inhabitated. The park is named after the largest island Karimun Jawa.
A number of endemic animals live on the island while on the beaches sea turtles lay their eggs.

The national park can best be visited during the dry season: May-September. A couple of boats a day make the journey from Jepara or Semarang to the islands. You can reach Jepara by bus from Semarang. Organized tours to Karimun Jawa can be arranged in Jepara or Semarang (see adresses).
