Welcome to the Homepage of
The Priory of Arianrhod & The Green Man
A Site Dedicated to the Further Understanding
of the Ecology of Our Mother Earth
"We work to become, not to acquire."
Elbert Hubbard
Welcome and thank you so much for stopping by. These
pages are to let the world know all about the work of The Noble Order of Tara, a
chivalric order and sister society of the Fellowship of Isis (see the Manifesto
for more information about the FOI) and more specifically, The Priory of
Arianrhod and The Green Man here in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. I am Sir
Draigg Raven Silverwheel, Grand Knight Commander of The Priory.
Priories are small local 'chapters' of The Order of Tara dedicated to conducting
work on a local level towards the preservation/restoration of the ecology. The
Order, which has earned worldwide recognition for local activity, lends
credibility and support to the Priories in their efforts to do good work in our
very neighborhoods.
Why a chivalric order? There are many reasons, but
mainly because we humans respond well to drama. Our daily lives are full of
boring, mundane routine. Many of us enjoy diversions in the form of movies and
television series, novels, magazines, even web sites with themes centered around
fantasy or science fiction. Many belong to societies that reenact times gone by.
We long to escape our seemingly boring existences. And let's face it, doing
ecological work is not all that exciting, in and of itself. Douglas Reagan, an
American, recognized this valuable fact back in 1987 and therefore came up with
an idea. He wanted to do local ecological work and he wanted to get others
interested in it, too. He felt that if he could lend a bit of drama and romance
to it, he would probably have a better response. He also knew that orders of
chilvary adhere to The Old Codes
of conduct of by-gone eras. Codes of valor, honor, truth. These values were
missing in today's societies, by Douglas' estimation, and we would do well to
call them back. Therefore, he approached Lawrence Durdin-Robertson, the Baron
Strathloch, of Ireland with this idea. As a member of the Baronic Court, Baron
Strathloch could establish a chivalric order and confer the accolade of
knighthood. He became the Chancellor of The Noble and Sovereign Order of Tara
and knighted Douglas as the Premier Knight of The Order. After his death in
1994, Lady Olivia Robertson, the Baron's sister, became The Order's Chancellor.
In the fall of 1993, I wrote to the Baron and inquired
about The Order. I had an interest in getting more information and told him of
some of my ideas for our area. I mentioned I was already leading a group that
was participating in the Arizona Adopt-A-Highway program. A couple of weeks
later, to my amazement, not only did I receive the requested information, but
also a charter establishing my Priory and documentation proclaiming me Grand
Knight Commander, Guardian of the Grand Cross of Tara (GCT)! Imagine my
surprise! But this was exactly what I had looked for in my life, since the Old
Codes already rang true in my heart. This was the impetus needed to spur our
group on to do more. The Priory continued our work for quite some time, but then
membership fell off and it lay fallow for a while. Then, after a recent visit to
Tucson by The Order's Dame Chancellor, Lady Olivia Robertson, I was inspired to
revive The Priory. I put out the word and many have come with an interest to
help! I am very grateful to these folks, for I certainly can't do it alone.
We've proudly adopted a
motto I'm sure you've probably already seen dozens of times:
"Think Globally - Act Locally."
"And just Who are Arianrhod
& The Green Man?" you may be asking yourself. They are the
Ones who inspire me. They are Deity, yet so much more. Come see a page in the
works telling of these Ancient Ones.
