AMERICAN INDIANS

Song of the flying eagle

The rays of the sun

rest on my wings
lazy they extend.

A small gray tornado
Tries to get me,
it winds continuously
on my  sky path.

(Navajo)

Praise to my horse

My horse is wonderful,
its tail is a black cloud,
and his leather is like rain
suspended in the air.
Its hoofs are black agate,
broad and striped

like the wind it has  houghs,
and like the sacred winds
it brings me over long paths.

(Navajo)

Lullaby

Firefly,Firefly,little fire
be the guide of my sleep while I sing to you,
give me light flying next to me,
lighten the grass in front of your way
let me sleep with joy in my heart.

Come creature,little firefly,
come and tomorrow we will party,
flickering light, you fly and I sing,
little fairy,queen of the night,
come, and my singing will be your pay.

(Algonkin Chippewa)
