White Elephant Gate, Chiang Mai
White Elephant Gate -- along Fang Road, on the northern outskirts of old Chiangmai. This pair of white elephant statues, placed in stalls facing north and west, commemorates the loyalty of two brave followers who saved the life of their king during a battle on war elephants that took place when the King of Ayutthaya attacked Chiangmai. The statues were placed here by king Saen Muang Ma in the late 14th century but have since been restored.
