Suan Hong Residence from the east

The Royal Ceremonies' Photography Museum is situated to the north of Vimanmek Mansion, King Rama V had this residence built for H.R.H. Sri Savarindira, one of his wives, and named it "Suan Hong Residence" (Swan Garden Residence). It was a green two-storey wooden house decorated with carved wood.

In late 1925, after the death of King Rama VI, H.R.H. Indrasakdi Sachi, his wife, moved from her previous residence at Vimanmek Mansion to live in this compound, too.

The residence is now used as a museum where the photographs of royal ceremonies and of the Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn are kept. The exhibits in the meseum are arranged in 8 rooms as follows.

Rooms No.1, 2 show the photographs of the royal barges and royal procession Rooms No.3 displays ancient saddle. Rooms No.1 exhibits the photographs of the royal children's birth commemoration and those of the "Ceremony of the First Sleep in the Cradle". It is a ceremony to make certain that no danger comes to the baby. Rooms No.2 displays the photographs of the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn from his birth to his appointment of Crown Prince Rooms No.3 shows the pictures of the "Ploughing Ceremony". It demonstrates the significance of the rice farming occupation in Thailand. The King boosts the morale of farmers all over the country by sowing ceremonail rice seeds in May of every year at Sanam Luang in front of the Grand Palace. Rooms No.4 exhibits the pictures of the royal ordination. Rooms No.5 displays the pictures of the "Swinging Ceremony". It is a Hindu ceremony for worshipping the Indian Gods.
