Hermits in different postures at the miniature hill

Contorted Hermit Mount, is a hygiene park near the South Wihan. Built during the reign of King Rama I, it was the center of medical science and Knowledge from the Ayutthaya period, reflected by statues of hermits or Rishi actising physical exercise. For Thais, a hermit is always treated as an important teacher. Informer times, the statues were made of clay; but King Rama III changed to stone, and only 24 statues are left now from the total of 80.
This contorted hermit was applied from Indian yogi. The artistic exercise postures are supposed to cure some certain ailments of the person who practises it. The inscriptions pf prosody framed on the cloisters columns are now kept in Sala Lai or Pavilions. Those inscriptions can illustrate the hermit postues and are famous as ancient Thai traditional medical science centre, which was the main purpos of the ancient Kings to eatablish this monastery.
