Meet our Virtual Mascot, Christine

Hello! I'm Christine, Holderness Ranger Guides' Virtual Mascot. I have a real "me" but the real Christine is too old to travel to other countries so I do it for her, and tell her all about my adventures.

My Rangers come from Yorkshire, England, on the north bank of the Humber estuary. (They call it the River Humber, but it isn't an ordinary river - it's eight miles wide at its widest and three miles wide here at Paull.)

There are twenty-one girls in the unit now, most of them are 14, 15 or 16 but we do have one 17 year old, one 18 year old and one 19 year old Ranger. We have three adult leaders, so we always have at least two of them at our meetings.

We like to do all sorts of activities. We go camping every year, and we do a lot of outdoor sports: we go abseiling and canoeing, at Easter we went sailing on the North Sea for a week, and in the summer of 2000 some of the girls even went to Switzerland! When it is wet and in the winter we go ten-pin bowling, ice-skating or to the theatre and cinema and we make regular visits to the Retirement Home in the village to play board games with the residents and put on concerts for them. At our unit meetings we plan our programme ourselves and we like to play games, listen to music, do crafts and just chat amongst ourselves, besides working on the Ranger Programme, "Look Wider."

Last September four of the girls and one leader all went to the International selection camp to see if they were good enough to be chosen to go on the special county International visits in 2001. We were all thrilled when they were ALL chosen, and in summer 2001 Dianne and Hannah went to Sweden, Katie and Heather went to Poland and Mikaela went to MEXICO!! They all had a WONERFUL time!
