In old times when tranportation was done by carts, man was relying on his beasts to pull them. One popular cart traveller's song relates the misery of the poor creature who had to drag the cart heavily laden with goods along this winding, formidable road towards Haputale from Beragala. The three fold junction Beragala ( where this photo was taken ) is an improtant point for roads in the area from where there is offered a panoramic view of the plains right up to maritime areas and even a precious glimpse of the sea is possible when the air is very clear.

From here one can drive down to Wellawaya and Kataragama ( the sacred land )catching a view of the Diyaluma Falls, crawl along the road shown towards Haputale and the Health Resort Bandarawela,or you may even return to the capital by passing Ratnapura,Avissawella, etc. If you are interested you can visit The Highest Waterfall of Sri Lanka by driving ( or walking if you prefer which actually is the better choice as the road is not perfectly motorable and is very narrow at some places ) some distance away from the latter road at a place called Kalupahana.
