Hello: What a place!! Unbelievable that such areas still exist today. By all means, do your best to keep it pristine and untouched by commercialism. When will we learn, that once exploited for greedy gain, they are lost forever!... By far, our great
st problem is population. We must contain our spreading numbers for the good of all. Every individual must have some solitude when we commune with the natural world. Walter Dawn - (Writer-Photographer)

Malaysians should value our greatest treasures much more than we do now. They should be conserved and not just for the sake of 'tourists'.
The local people must be extensively consulted and assisted in making Pulong Tau a protected area. Please, please do for all our sakes.

Great stuff and tough stuff too. Did the entire stretch (minus Batu Lawi) from Long Lellang to Long Pasia (36 days) in 1990.
I thought if you are doing the hike from Bario to Ba Kelalan, half way you turn left and follow the river upstream. This is the route from south, and this has been the hunter trail. There was a bamboo shelter along the way, and as you approach the mossy f
rest, you have to squeeze in between the gap with your rucksack. WOW.
I still keep my slides collection of the area, and if given the opportunity, can I join you guys in the future for a trip there?
Please keep us posted for new development of the area.

The beautiful golden orange orchid depicted here is Coelogyne radioferens, not Coelogyne radiophrens. It was first collected from Paka-Paka Cave on Kinabalu by Joseph Clemens and described by Professor Oakes Ames and his assistant Charles Schweinfurth in
920. It is also found in Brunei and Kalimantan and is a Bornean endemic.

I was lucky enough to visit Sarawak and Sabah a few years ago and so know first hand how beautiful it is. It would be a great shame if large scale deforestation was allowed to ruin the country and destroy its wildlife. It is much easier to preserve it now
than for future generations to try and restore it.
