Jumper

You are all here to watch me
My new found friends
Craning your necks to view
My imminent demise your entertainment

Where were you when I climbed
The multitude of stairs
Upwards to my decision

Where were you when I suffered
The hundreds of rejections
the thousands of derisions

Likely, you mocked me, secretly
gave me strange looks,
refused to listen to my conversation

You were laughing at me
pointing at me, staring at me
as if I was some alien
trapped in social isolation
now you wait,
anticipating my final plunge
into the void that fills me

I take one more step
it is my last in this life
plummeting to the ground
the screams of the squeamish
act as backing to this finale

the ground is my friend,
greeting me with its firm embrace
obliterating my body, my sorrow
immortalised in the morning paper
