Acari

The mites are the most numerous group of arachnids in Europe, being almost all of them very small and impossible to identify at sight, except to the level of suborder. Differently from other arachnids, they present numerous parasite species of plants and animals; some of them live excusively under water. Many bring damage to human beings or their crops and stored products. The ticks suck the blood, transmitting diseases and causing epidemies in the cattle. Ixodes and other genus have larvae with only three pairs of legs.
The trombidiform acari parasite small insects and other acari. The Oribatidae are small and almost spherical, living in the moss and between the fallen leafs, feeding on fungus. Some mites have adopted the dispersion through other animals, parasitizing some of them, their transportation medium.
