Palpigrada

The palpigades are very small arachnids (1mm) with no eyes or respiratory system. The cephalothorax has three dorsal shields, the one anterior larger, the two posterior smaller. Ventrally has a sternum divided into several plates. The abdomen is segmented and extended by a multiarticulated tail which is provided with numerous sensorial hairs.
The chelicerae are formed by three articles, the last two forming a pincer. The pedipalps are adapted to locomotion, having the first pair of legs an exclusively tactile function.
Their coloration is whitish, being typical from the soil fauna or from cave-life.
Is very scanty the knowledge about their life-cycle, reproduction and biology in general, but they have been seen feeding on small spring-tails (collembola).
In the Iberian Peninsula, there are 3 species of palpigrades, all belonging to the genus Eukoenenia.
