Water Garden Wildlife

Ponds attract many facinating critters to the garden. Our water garden has been visited by many insects. Among the insects, butterflies and dragon flies are the most colorful. Frogs found the our pond the day the water was added. At one point during the spring, there were uncountable tadpoles and dozens of frogs. The frogs that inhabited our pond are Pacific tree frogs. Neighborhood cats and noctural raccoons are regular visitors to the water's edge. We plan to try to photograph the wildlife that visits the pond.

A red dragonfly perches on the pickerel weed (Pontederia cordata).

This Pacific tree frog is catching some morning sun after a quick dip in the pond. The frogs usually hid during the day and come out at dusk.

This little guy is the last of the wild chickens that have lived in our garden. He is a tough old bird. He sleeps in the trees and spends his days foraging.
