8:47p - A dream, a chat, and hike #3
I had the most beautiful dream last night. I could breathe underwater without tanks, without a regulator. It was a...different...way of breathing -- more like, breathing through the soull than with the body, something about using the full spectrum of life to draw oxygen. ANd there were dolphins all around me and I was swimming with them and playing with them and i could even communicate with them to some extent--telepathically or something i think. The waters was this otherwordly light infused shade of blue. It felt like I was just two feet below the surface on a brilliantly sunny day...when in reality I had absolutely NO idea how deep I was...

and there was a cave all of a sudden, and i was at a corral reef surrounding this island that the cave was on...and then came men.

and everything changed. it all...deterioated. They were afraid of me, afraid of this strange shade of blue water. They drove the dolphins away, and they made me afraid...

and then i woke up...

It was the most vivid dream that I've had in many years, and the fact that it stuck in my memory means something I think...i just...i don't know what.

I chatted with yet another insomniac ( oddharmonic ) last night...only...i'm not sure if she couldn't sleep, wasn't able to because of her child hogging the bed...or because she didn't want to. I talked with her a bit, logged, and came back several hours later to find her still online...

She said it was the first time in a while she'd had such provoking conversation...but i dunno...i don't really think I was all that provocative. Anyway...it was the first time in a while that i talked with someone that turns out to be smarter than me...

Today's hike:

Distance: 15 miles
Elevation Change: 750 ft
Time of Day: 1315
Temperature: 75 - 85F
Humidity: 75
Water Consumed: 80 ozs
Other Consumption: 1x Harvest Bar
5x Jolly Ranchers
1 oz beef jerky
Weight: 55 lbs
Time: 4 hours 15 minutes

I need an exercise to work my hamstrings when I start lifting again next week. Constantly moving up and downhill (mostly downhill) on a hard surface like asphalt is just murder on them after 10 miles or so. I brought music with me this time but not only was the battery dieing, the backup was also dead. I didn't bother to check the backup because I wasn't going to wait the umpteen hours for it to charge...even if it was dead...they're these funky sort of flat NiMH batteries so it's not like i could just buy new ones.

Didn't really make any better time to the 6 mile mark despite taking the 10 lb weight out this week. I did, however, feel a hell of a lot better and was able to keep moving and do a short 5 min reststop somewhere around the 10 mile mark instead.

As I was rucking along, the thought occurred to me that there is a HUGE topo map hanging in the Box. I need to take a look at it and get the elevations right.

While the last few miles sucked, I felt better when i finished than I did last time. I went straight to the gym and got on the stairmaster for a few minutes with my ruck on. Yeah...that didn't last long. I had actually caught my second wind as i trudged to the gym and was tempted to throw another four miles by doing the loop on post...Yeah...I'm glad I didn't.

A few tender spots but only one blister on top of my left big toe. I think it's due to the socks I wore--i decided to try this pair i have that has extra padding on the heels and soles. Well the seam rubbed my toes causing one really rare spot and i think the blister. Needless to say I won't be wearing those again.

Tomorrow morning I'm doing a short 8 miles with SGT Sar to start getting accustomed to rucking day to day and not just twice a week...Not sure if I am going to add more weight or not.

A little sore but not too bad. All in all I'm actually quite pleased.

current mood:  sore
current music: Neil Young _AYP?_
