Friday

I can die now.  Last night was THE night, the night I finally saw Pearl Jam in concert.  It was my first concert, not just by them, but period, and it was, hands down, the best time I have ever had in my entire life.  From the opening cords of "Release", to the closing riffs of "Yellow Ledbetter"... I was thunderstruck by the whole experience, the crowd, the music, the pit-the pushing and shoving, and yet, strange love and calmaraldrie, especially for those who were knocked down, and would be hurt if they couldn't get back up.  I even got airborne for a few seconds-lofted above the crowd, held up by the hands of the fans.  For those few seconds, I saw the concert from a completely new angle, and got the last of the full experience.  Pearl Jam played, to the best of my memory, although I am sure I'm forgetting a few, "Release, Black, Rearviewmirror, Sonic Reducer, Yellow Ledbetter, Corduroy, Better Man, Tremor Christ, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Dissident, Go, Why Go, Animal, Blood, Alive, Evenflow, Immortality," a new, revamped version of "Jeremy,", "Not for You, Daughter, Porch," and a new song I couldn't make out, about abortion I believe-I thought it was going to be "Porch", the way Eddie was talking about it, but it wasn't.  Ed said they were going to do "Dirty Frank", which surprised the hell out of me, but made me really happy, since I liked it a lot, but then said he was going to be an asshole and not play it afterall. Regardless, they did "Yellow Ledbetter, Sonic Reducer, Rearviewmirror, and Black," my most favorite songs.  I took a give blood shirt the night before and wrote it all up with a marker, putting my favorite songs-30 or so-the names of the musicians-Gossard, Ament-who had his hair cut off-short, like Gossard, which surprised me, Vedder, Mccready, and the new drummer, Jack Irons.  About maybe 1/3 of the way through the concert, after all the pit thrashing and all, I took it off and tossed it onstage.  I was hoping to hit Eddie and make him read it-maybe play some of the songs, if I was lucky, but I missed-he moved back stage just as I threw it.  Still, the show was just that much funner without my shirt on, I wasn't the only one, that was for sure.  I watched the entire concert from the pit, save for a fifteen minute break when I was feeling massively dehydrated and had trouble breathing and, well, moving-I was tired, all the pushing and shoving.  I went, stuck my head underneath a faucet, cooled off, because Sacramento was already hot-90+ degrees, and the pit heat didn't make it any better, bought some water, relaxed a couple minutes, then, when "Evenflow" started, I was right back in it, fighting my way to the very edge of the barriers in front of the stage, sky overhead, stars shining.  It was such an awesome time, I couldn't believe it.  Finally, after all the waiting, I got to see Vedder and company in action.  I can't wait for the bootlegs to come in for this tour.  I wonder if I'll be able to hear myself, screaming for "Yellow Ledbetter", over and over as I did between three or four songs?  I wonder if I'll be able to see myself on video cassete-held aloft in the air, pointing at Eddie, wild with ectasy.  What a night!  Tommorow, Saturday, PJ plays in San Fransisco.  I want to go and see them again, but I have to work.  I'm not even really worried about not having tickets, because I have a strong feeling the concert will be stormed.  The opening acts, two or three of them, start at noon.  That means PJ will start about 2:00PM I think.  I start work at 12:00, and work until 9:00PM, so I'd have a problem going.  If it was an evening concert, I could just go early, but this way, I'd have to miss almost my whole shift.  This week I'm working so many hours, I'm making big time overtime money, so I can't really sacrfice any time in good conscience.  I saw PJ once, and, I can always get the bootleg if SF is really that rockin' a concert. Nevertheless, I still hella' want to go...
