Just a few quick notes before bed...Eric has contacted a local band called Spank (rather good jazz outfit, really, saw 'em openign for Galactic...trombonists really rips...) about having me taping some of their live gigs...maybe so they can release some live recordings as a demo/promo/official CD...

It had come up earlier, it isn't like this was an uninitiated idea. He'd asked me when he saw my stuff if I would help the band for a few bucks...

It would be taping, by permission, for official release by the band...like contracted work, you could say. It wouldn't be more than a few bucks...I mean, I'm not going to overprice, I'm not a studio for christs sake...I can do a lot, but for CD's they'll have to go to a studio or a friend with connections or whatever...

Still I could actually call myself a paid recording technician...that'd be cool.

I never heard back from the guys and gal in _The Dave Hinz Band_...sent them an email that I had their tape for them...granted, it wasn't a great performance...Maybe they *do* want it and just can't get in contact with me...I guess I should email them again...it's been 2 months since it was recorded...

Those guys are a reason I'm leery doing this kind of thing for Spank. All the effort and time wasted...then again, Spank I've seen before and liked quite a bit...tis other band was OK, but not what I would call super great...

I.E. if nothign else, I'd have a cool DAT to listen to...then again, I have so many now I find it difficult to choose what to listen to...can't hit play on that DAT deck 24/7...wear it out, it'll go down in need of repairs in a matter of months...have to baby the poor thing. (Which would explain why right now I'm listening to an analog tape...much less expensive machinery...heh.)

Electrons, Voltage, Current, Oh MY...it's a physics test monday. Oh joy...but I've already started my reviewing, wuizzes have been going excellently...I'll be plenty well prepared I think...keep at it. Applied for a few internships which haven't come to fruit, Oh well...that's life. Looking for a place to stay next year...same problem I had last term though...every known opening right now is leased mid may/june 1 on...I saw plenty of notice of places open in aug...wehn I moved into the place I started renting (on June 1 that is) in August...Aaaccckk. Greg's moving out of his house at the end of the semester I suppose. I dunno where exactly he's moving...but I don't think living with an addict is a good idea right now--I mean, I did turn away three offers for a cigarette from him today...yes, it's day 4 (again, I think this is day #1 number four...) w/o a single cigarette. My sense of smell has improved already, to be honest...second hand smoke alone bothered me this evening when I went to Greg's to grind the last of the coffee beans :( ... Got a couple Physics back from being graded today, 80% on one 100% on the other...so I celebrated with some ice cream...

Oh yeah, the book Gage was gonna lend me to read...he passed it around for the whole class to examine briefly, then took it home with him...I completely forgot to ask for it to read after class...*doh*. Just as well, I shouldn't be doing (technically) outside reading right now...

Sometimes I feel bad that this sight isn't innovative, or even remotely iconic/graphical. All this new medium to explore here, and I stay stuck, enclosed within or RL limitations...almost *everything* I put here, could be enclosed by a simple book. No sound files, moving pictures, frames, cgi...you could bind up the entire archives and lose next to nothing by putting it into hard copy form. Sometimes I'd like to say, *yes* I am creating a new medium of expression, a new use of symbols for learning, a new dimension of artwork...but sadly, I am not...I could do with images and the web what cummings did with arrangement on the paper..force new ways of interpretation, show you a new angle to view the world from, give new a new tool to tinker reality about a bit with...
Sadly, I do not. Why is this? I like to say much of it is time constraints...but also financial...hard to do fancy image stuff without photoshop, or it's like, or frame work without a frames capable browser, or sound processing without a decent sound card or a large hard drive...I do what I can with what I have. I'm quite lucky I have so little to create my internet home with, my online persons...by forcing it's shallowness and limitation like this, I lessen my personal desire to embellish (which means I would have *NO* RL...bound to the machine you see...), to push those boundaries of convention, to stretch the limits of integration *past* infinity...sum out *more* than is there, and see just how honestly different it is...classic thinking would imply nothing, for cassical thinking would declare there is nothing past infinity...infinity is the end all be all...think this way. Absolute 0 on the Kelvin Scale indicates a complete and utter lack of molecular motion. OK, so how can we model a negative degrre Kelvin? Theoretically, there is no such thing...but theory applies to *our* physical universe. The world wide web is *ot* our physical universe...it is an entire new dimension...limited only to one's conscious manipulation of patterns, of binary, of on/off switches, at it's essence. Take a theoretical observation again then...just how many combinations of 1 and 0 are there that are unique? Well, from a simple statistical analysis, what you have is a binomial distribution...i.e. assuming each test is independent of the others (i.e., such that 'if one switch 1 is 0, all other switches must alternate as 0, then 1, then 0, etc.' is not a possibility...no patterns or any such conditions), each trial ( switch ) can be labeled *only* as a 1, or as a 0, the probability of each trial is the same (and this point here...well, this *could* vary, but for this example, let's just *say* for ease of discussion you were as likely as going left as you were to go right kind of a mapping example...i.e. where a switch is 0 and where a switch is 1 is completely arbitray, 50/50 chance of either...) You can have either a one or a zero for each "switch". Assume then four switches...the number of combinations is 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 = 2^4 = 16. take infinite switches, 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X... = 2^(Infinity) so then the number of possible binary combinations, which equals the computer code, and hence what the computer is instructed to do is equal to infinity. By a purely statistical point of view then, a computer, and therefore all of the electronic world we call "the net" or "online" or "the web" or even simply "software" can be *told* to do anything...

Of course, there is always the limiting factor of *what* a computer can do. Sure, you could tell it to make you dinner...but at this point, I doubt there are many computers that can interpret your wish, process the thought, gatehr the ingredients, etc. etc. bottom line...I don't think you could tell even he most sophisticated computer that and have a tangible dinner that evening...try a few more decades...still, that limit holds for now (unless you happen to see an adroid at Benny Hannas (i think that's the name...thoe oriental resteraunts where the chef cooks right in front of you on the hot table) and that I would *love* to know...or just that your roomate has an android like that, or whatever...Yet again, just as humans learn to do new things, like I could learn how to cook a turkey, on my own (i've never done that before, so I'd *have* to learn), a computer can be taught to do something new by us, the humans, the users...or perhaps even other machines in some areas.

Yet, to focus back (wander wander wander...*sheesh*) We can try to do *anything* on the net theoretically, but I don't even try those new aveues we *know* work, that constitute radical alterations "online"...alterations of the Real World everyone is already semi-comfortable with...

Maybe I just like the idea of always needing a firm basis IRL so I propagate it's weaknesses by conforming myself to it...

I dunno. But it's bedtime now...actually, it's past my bedtime. I wandered quite a bit here and meant to hit the hay a full 90min tape side ago.
