It's been an interesting timespan since I last wrote, marked by PJ and friends, both new and old, car mishaps, and another late night Denny's meal. The drive to the Days Inn in Sacramento found me cruising all the wrong areas of sacto, finally stopped at a gas station to get a map and find out where i needed to go. Nick was waiting in the lobby and greeted with a hug--such a sweet guy. Grace and Dianne came in not long after I got there, from lunch at McDonald's...They both excused themselves for a nap and I excused myself for a gardenburger at Carrows. I finally got to meet Tina and Andy not long after...both very sweet people as well. I later got my soul stolen by Tina in her Digi-camera...so my mug must soon be uploaded somewhere by her no doubt. She was so endulging as to remain silent for the whole show while I taped next to her...now she's eager for a clone as she and Andy shall be going DAT she says...
Cookies and milk mark this session, as opposed to the normal beer...been pounding two to three after work as of late, making me sleepy and unmotivated to write...which I mean to stop...I've been gettin creative flashes as of late and it's killing me to not get anything donw...but this journal comes first...so many priorities in life....
Aaaahhhhhh....."Black"....it was a really beautifull performance of this one that night. Overall, a good show. If I had to rate all ten shows, it was probably the worst, but, being PJ, that's still not an insult...simply the "least-great"...the band seemed tired, less risk-taking, a bit conservative at times. Ed began singing the wrong verses on a couple songs, and the performance of "Porch", so long-awaited after being absent the last several shows, was stock, no improv or extended jam as I have come to expect...but even still, there were highlights, like the electric version of Nothingman, Black, an eagerly anticipated RVM...they opened with STBC, which was just *pumping*. Matt Cameron was just driving the percussion home....Almost as important were the friends I sat with though. I kind of wanted to remain with them instead of heading for the main floor, just because I didn't want to stand alone when good friends I see not often were so near at hand...and then I saw how crowded the floor was getting and was even more glad of my decision. The seats we picked up on GA where actually rather excellent. Awesome sight lines and great line towards the speaker stacks (although the tape is a little tinny, lacking 'presence'...
And here's that "Porch".....wahoo!!!!!!
There seems a bit more audience noice than I remembered there being...but I was wearing earplugs so...
Amit and Lisa joined us not long before PJ came on...getting to the venue from San Jose in time...both cool cats although I didn't get too much of a chance to talk with them. Jay came with them but got lost in the shuffle b4 the show started so we met him later. He's moved to SF now and I volunteered him a ride home, to spare Amit and Lisa who both had to get up for work early friday...So Jay and I chatted the whole way home, about local sights, Open Pages/journals, MTV, future plans....I got his phone number and should call him tomorrow...
Ran into Barb just as we were leaving...she was on the main floor for the entire show apparently...I felt kind of bad becaue I told her I'd probably be near the board and to look for me there...but I saw that crowd and no-way...
Yesterday I ran into Cynon Deleon, or rather, he ran into me, at Pocket Change. I was playing House of the Dead on my break and he just sauntered up and said, "Hi Glen, how's it going?" then plunked in two quarters and joined the game...just like him to be so casual...haven't seen the guy in about three years...but we're hopefully going to hang out a bit sometime as well...he's graduated now with a degree in Math, having changed from Cal Tech and Aueronautical Eng to Math and Santa Barbara...
The lower front right control arm (A arm) on my car broke last night on a delivery. My car is sitting down the street as I type, where it collapsed. Tommorrow I begin the process of trying to get it fixed. Today I worked a full day delivering in the CK van...brought in my walkman and mini-speakers for music and with AC it wasn't so bad...although I want to get my car fixed ASAP...junkyards tommorrow and hopefully I can fix it myself (fingers crossed)...
"Arms wide open with his sea as the floor...Open....Open....He's Flying! Wowwwwoooowwww. High! Why? Ohhhhhoooohhhhh"
