Step 1: Click on the Look up for a word... OR choose "Look up for a word..." from menu OR press F8

Step 2: Select the check boxes (the attributes to be shown in the results). Select the type of search. If you are very specific about the word, Click on "Is exactly like" radio button and enter the word. Else click on the "Has Starting _ letters like..." and enter the no of starting letters. This gives a more generalized search option. You get a list of matching words.

Step 3(optional): To save the search results in a file, check the  Save results to a separte html file option.The files are saved in the  "SavedSearches"  folder with their nomenclature as follows:

  • Searches with exact option are saved with word name = file name. Like in example shown below file is saved as 'abet.htm'
  • Searches with starting letter options are saved with name 'list_' %starting letters% '.htm' eg. here 'list_im.htm'
  • HTML files are easy to customize and print in MS-Word, or MS-FrontPage, NetScape(IE5) etc

Step 4: Click on "Go". If the word is not existing in the dictionary you'll be warned, else the results are displayed containing attributes you entered.


  • Tip: to display a whole word list for a given alphabetic letter enter the letter in Has starting 1 letter(s) like option.
  • For quick search without starting the whole program, type the following set of commands on MS-DOS
    change directory to C:\minithesaurus ie
    cd C:\minith~1 [enter]
    minitz [word to be searched] [enter]
