Who We Are
My name is Randy Moran; that's me on the right. Why yes, I am as surly as I look. I'm the rider for Moran Racing, which is only fitting since my last name's Moran and I own the bike. My lovely wife, Julie, is the team manager. We live and work in northern Virginia. Julie is a teacher with the Fairfax County School Age Child Care (SACC) program, and I'm a technical writer with TRW. We had our first child, Julian James, in May.
I learned to ride a motorcycle in 1988, while I was stationed in Monterey, CA, with the Army. Two years later, while stationed in upstate New York, I took up roadracing. My first races were at a Canadian track called Shannonville, in Ontario. I managed to get in parts of two seasons before I left the Army for college.
Julie learned to ride in 1994 and has since taken the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course.
For the 2000 season, we're campaigning a '99 Suzuki SV650 at all of the events on the WERA Mid-Atlantic regional schedule. The bike was prepared by SpeedWerks Sportbike Services of Camden, DE, a great bunch of guys who've transformed their passion (road racing motorcycles) into a fulltime job. We're sponsored by:
- Whitt's Suzuki of Manassas, VA
- Corti Designworks
- SpeedWerks
All of these businesses are at the top of their respective fields. I've done business with all of them, and I recommend them to anyone.
We'll be travelling and pitting with Brian Roach and Brad Faas, two fellow lightweight racers. Both will be riding beautifully prepared FZR 400s. It should be a great season. We hope to see you at the track!
