| hello,we are finally here, in bangkok, after 24 hoursof travel!!!we're staying in a very popular part of town,that never seems to sleep. there are tons ofpeople around all the time, people from all overit seems...and a little lizard on the bathroomwall!we got a decent room with a/c for 10$ -everyhting is so cheap!our bikes did not make it (yet) on this journey,they got stuck in new york. this turned out to bea fortunate thing since we didn't have to dragthem around town last night at 2 o'clock in themorning, looking for our hotel. we should haveour bikes back tomorrow, they were just delayed alittle.today we did a walkathon (it seems). i'm reallytired now, but it was fun. bangkok is so insane.even more than cairo...i never thought a citygets crazier than new york, but then i saw cairo,and now bangkok seems to top it all...there areso many people and so many things going on aroundall the time. it's fun although a bit of anoverload for the senses - the noise, the smokeand pollution, everything there is to see, thetraffic, the temples, the incense smell, the dogswalking the streets...maybe that's why i feeltired now, and it's only 6:30.tomorrow we are going to the airport to pick upour bikes, and then we are starting on ourjourney north-east, towards the lao border. oh, i forgot to mention the heat and humidity! wedrank ~5 liters of water today! enough said! it'sunbeleivable how good the people look, especiallythe women, in this heat, while i'm sweating likea dog... today, when we were walking, we came across atemple (wat), which there are so many of here,and there were dancers in traditional costumesperforming a dance, some sort of offering tobuddha, it seemed. it was really nice to comeupon that so unexpectedly, so we took a breakfrom walking a watched for a while. one more thing. the food is amazing. very spicy,and so tasty! i am trying all these things idon't know, and it's really fun. so far,everything i've tried has been really good. ok, that's it for now, i'll write again in a fewdays hopefuly, if we get to another big town. i hope everybody is very well! i am really happyto be writing to you right now! cu drag,raluca |
