What is the Heart of Georgia Academic Alliance?
The Heart of Georgia Academic Alliance is an association of foreign language teachers, administrators, and community leaders interested in the teaching and learning of foreign languages, including English as a Second Language, in schools, colleges, or elsewhere. Located at the center of the Heart of Georgia area, Brewton-Parker College is ideally situated to serve as host for many of the events held by the alliance. What is the alliance's mission?
The alliance seeks to foster communication between foreign language teachers and students in the area, and to enable them to work together to improve instruction at all levels. Who is eligible to join?
Anyone who is interested in the value and benefit of learning foreign languages is welcome to join the organization. The alliance particularly welcomes members of the community who are not foreign language teachers themselves, but who recognize the importance of foreign language competence in their communities and are interested in promoting foreign language study. What are the dues?
There are no membership dues. What does the alliance have to offer me and my students?
The alliance is just beginning to reorganize its programs, which may include an annual contest for students, visits to each other's classes to find out what's really going on, sharing of ideas at regular meeting (sometimes at restaurants!), and other activities depending on the interests of the group. How can I become a member?
Anyone who teaches a foreign language, or is interested in fostering and enhancing instruction, is encouraged to consider himself or herself a member. Your participation is welcome and needed. Please tell others who may be interested also! How is the alliance organized?
There are no officers as such. We will all need to function as an informal steering committee and discuss plans for the alliance. We hope to add a message board to this page so that we can leave messages and comments for the whole group to be able to access. Meanwhile, we can all exchange email addresses and other contact information as needed. You can email Bryan Rampey at Brewton-Parker College for further information about the alliance, or to suggest activities.
