Thanks for visiting my homepage. I hope the information you find here and elsewhere on the Brewton-Parker site will help you make the decision to join us here. Our campus is among the nicest you will find, and the surrounding area is virtually free of crime and pollution.

My, how the time has flown. It was only yesterday (actually 18 years ago) that I came to Brewton-Parker as a young instructor. At the time, we had about 400 full-time students and only one really adequate classroom building. Now we have approximately 1100 students, and all our classroom facilities are of superior quality. We have grown from a two-year junior college offering only associate degrees to a full-fledged four-year college offering numerous Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, as well as the Bachelor of Ministry and brand new, just this year, a minor in Spanish!

As for my personal qualifications, I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Two years later, I earned the Master of Arts in Spanish from the University of Arizona. Along the way, I also studied at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. I have maintained membership in the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and the Foreign Language Association of Georgia, as well as several Internet groups dedicated to consideration of Spanish and related fields. I have published articles in The Internet Homesteader and The Beacon. This academic training, supplemented by travels to Spain and Mexico, has enabled me to know Hispanic culture first-hand, and also to appreciate my own American culture more deeply.

We require most of our students to take a year of a foreign language as a part of their major. We feel that this is a wise requirement, given the global nature of the economy we live in, as well as the necessity for cultural understanding in general. We offer Spanish, French, and Hellenistic Greek to satisfy this requirement. We are also in the process of implementing a minor in Spanish for those who are interested in adding this valuable job skill. Click here to see the Spanish 101 syllabus, or here to see the Spanish 102 syllabus.

You can also send email to me at brampey@bpc.edu if you have any questions about the college or its foreign language requirements and offerings. Thanks for visiting my homepage; hope to see you at Brewton-Parker soon!

Here I am in Rockefeller Plaza, New York City, with my wife, Dr. Leslie Campbell Rampey, who helped me learn to design Web pages. (You wouldn't believe how many sushi bars there are within a 5-block radius of Rockefeller Plaza!) Leslie is a reference librarian at Middle Georgia College. We love New York, and we also enjoy traveling in other parts of the U.S. and in Europe.

I am an avid amateur photographer. My old Nikon SLR has been a faithful companion for over 20 years. I hope to be able to post a gallery of some of my favorite photos here in the near future. Check back often!
