CHAPTER 7WeddingBurr and I were married in the San Bernardino Church, Sunday morning of March 25th, 1928 following the preaching service--Elder John Blair, the pastor, officiating. Our attendants were Joe Clapp and Wilma Dexter. Early that morning, Milla and Claire had gone out into the orchards and gathered arm loads of orange blossoms to decorate the church. I wore a white dress at Mother Bronson's request but at the last she refused to go to the service but insisted that Dad be there. He drove us there. Burr was active in the young peoples' group and the service was well attended and very nice. Barbara Wixom played wedding music and accompanied Fred Savage who sang "0. Promise Me" before our part of the service. Later, Fred and Barbara were married. Dad drove our car home and, to confuse the young people, a friend from the packing house who was unknown to the congregation attended and drove us back to Redlands. Mother Bronson had a nice dinner ready for us, the Fergusons, Hiel Bronsons, and Claire. We left that afternoon in our little 1926 model "T" Ford, that had been purchased some time earlier, for a visit with my parents and other relatives in Washington State. We stopped over nights in tourist cabins for $1.00 per night carrying our own bedding and grub box. We returned about three weeks later to find that Mother and Dad Bronson had left for Washington just before we got there. They had been called because of serious illness of Lester which developed after we left. We moved into their house, with Claire being there part time, and took care of the garden, chickens, and rabbits until they returned in October.
