H.O. Enthusiasts and Sponsors,
The San Juan International Grand Prix
Invitational was a success, thanks to our sponsors and the quantity of racers
who attended. First and for most I want to thank all of the sponsors who
donated race prices for the event. BRP Bat-Jets, J.C. Smith, Supertires,
Slugger, SCM Performance, Chris' Embroidery, Wizzard, Scaleauto and Tom
Heister.
The garage door opened at 11:00a.m. and soon there after the
racers started to show up. The guys started mingling and getting their cars
ready for the races. Before the CRL race, we kicked-off with opening
remarks thanking all the racers who attended and giving credit to the
sponsors. Through the day we held raffles with brown bags of race prizes
for all attendees. All kinds of tires, parts, stickers, bodies, you name it were
raffled and given as race prizes. We started with race #1 CRL Formula One cars
followed by Race #2 T-Jets provided by Tom Bowman, J.C. Smith, Doug and Scott
Keck. The grand finale sported the G3, P-2, P-3, T-2. Racing concluded at
2:00a.m. By the end of the night everyone had gotten their Slotcar kicks
in and were visibly tired. It was truly a fun day of racing.
Race #1 CRL Formula One
The race had 17 Racers lined up for the starting grid.
The race format was 5 minutes long with heats for 4 mains A-D. Racing was
furious as the owner of the track was trying to protect his ground. A SG+
burned up from the San Juan hot weather. After the final heat a Tyco had
won the race with two SG+ taking 2nd and 3rd place. Below are the
final results:

Race #2 T-jets
Truly a fun race with 17 Racers again
lined up for the starting grid. The race used a round robin format.
I have to say T-jets are fun to race but after running the F-1's it was real
soft on the eyes.

Race #3 (modified)
This race pitted the P-3, P-2, Panther, G3 and T-2's against
each other to gage their performance at 5-minute heats. The G3 seemed to
be the best car out on the field. Amazingly fast and with good handling it
took the top two spots with a Tyco using stock motor magnets with Phase III
traction magnets taking third place. Even
though the race was a
friendly the competition was fierce. The top finishers:
