Rare: The Good and the Bad

Over the many years that Rare supported the N64, they have never really developed a bad game. Needless to say, there games aren't perfect, so in this editorial I will highlight the good and bad parts of the many Rare games on the N64.

Banjo Kazooie
Banjo was a classic among gamers, and was  right up there with Super Mario 64. It starred Banjo, the honey  bear, and Kazooie, a breegull in the huge quest to locate and save Banjo's sister Tooty from the games main enemy, Gruntilda.

Good: Good storyline, likeable characters, excellent graphics, outstanding level design, brilliant sound and music.
Bad: Sometimes frustrating, camera was awkward, no speech, no end of level bosses.

Banjo Tooie
Banjo Tooie was the anticipated sequel to Banjo Kazooie, and again starred Banjo and Kazooie on there quest to revenge the death of Bottles the Mole. This game improved on everything BK did, and was the perfect game to continue the series.

Good:
Awesome graphics, excellent level designs, great bosses, outstanding sound effects and music, Sabreman made an appearance, heaps of variety, kick-arse multiplayer mode, huge worlds.
Bad: No speech, framerate is jumpy, annoying and disappointing coming from Rare.

Goldeneye

One of the greatest games ever created. Based on the movie of the same name, you control James Bond in some of the best levels and missions ever imagined. The level design is outstanding, and with a multiplayer game only outdone by Perfect Dark, this was a game 95% of N64 owners bought. It still is, 5 years on, a must buy if you don't have it.

Good: Excellent graphics, excellent sound, awesome level design, great characters, outstanding weapons, unbelievable guards, near-perfect multiplayer.
Bad: No speech, just subtitles, very rarely, framerate can be slow, but never affects the gameplay.

Perfect Dark
PD was the most anticipated game for anyone who had plyed Goldeneye, and it sure made up for the delays. Starring Joanna Dark, you must control her through levels and missions filled with danger and conspiracy theories. Perfect Dark is the ultimate FPS on a console to date, and is one of the greatest games ever created.

Good: Brilliant level designs, breathtaking graphics, fully interactive environments, best weapons in a video game, super intelligent guards, impressive sound, great characters, intriguing storyline. Multiplayer is the best in a game ever.
Bad: I nearly failed school coz I played it so much. You may lose weight because there is no time to eat!
