Blue Jacket 24
I met Tom
Lathrop through the internet. I saw his ad in Boatbuilder magazine and was
interested in the classic shape and the use of a smaller motor to power a large
boat.
By
using a smaller motor one can own a larger more comfortable boat and not have to
get a loan for the gas to use it.
I was fortunate
enough to meet Tom and his wife Liz in July 2003. I got a good look at the blue
jacket and to talk with Tom about its design. Tom has put a great amount of
thought into this boat, from strength to comfort and use of space, its all
there.
If you
want a boat that gets good mileage but is still able to travel at a comfortable
speed to get you to your destination, this boat is worth a look.
The
Boat is designed for a 50 hp outboard (high output version).
Tom
describes the boat as” a lightweight, trailerable cruiser that planes from
22mph down to 10mph on only a 50 hp motor. A handsome cruiser with roomy fore
cabin and pilothouse, private head and classic lines. Stitch and glue plywood
for ease of construction”.
Tom
also has designed a 20’ version of the boat. I have the plans for this and will
build as soon as my finances allow. Toms Plans come in a 3 ring binder that
tells everything about the construction. Also included is a CD that show the construction
of “Liz” and the sea trials.
Tom's 20’ version of the boat shown with no top.
The
plans are available from.
