Okay monkeys! This is the last chapter!

The Ankh:
Unlocking the Door

Vegeta held Bulma tight to his chest as if at any moment someone would take her away from him.

“I promised I would come back for you, my Kirrorra. I never knew you would come for me.” He chuckled.

She sighed into his chest. Even though Vegeta had lost his mind it was still nice to be next to him again. After all, they were bonded mates. She breathed in his scent, always the same: comforting and masculine. He used to be her protector, now it was her job to protect him from the Ankh.

The Ankh. She had almost forgotten. Being with Vegeta had always made her forget all but each other.

She looked into his coal black eyes. It was unorthodox, for Vegeta that is. The former Vegeta, the one she had known most of her life, had never shown much emotion in his eyes. Anger, hatred, contempt; those he had shown but never this one. Never this foreign feeling in his eyes. This love. Love for her.

LOVE! Never had she known Vegeta could ever show this emotion in his countenance, let alone feel it. But here it was, clearly embroidered on his face with warm thread.

She regretted what she knew she must do.

Vegeta gently laid Bulma on his bed. And began to search his room; for what Bulma did not know.

“Vegeta?”

“Yes, lovely?”

‘Lovely?’ she thought amused. “Will you make love to me one last time?”

“What do you mean ‘one last time?’ We will make love forever, we will still be wrapped in each others arms when suns wither and new planets writhe out of their universal wombs.”

‘I wish, my vegetable head.’ She though direly. “Then. –Then will you make love to me now and for the moment forget eternity?”

Vegeta looked into Bulma’s clear blue eyes.

“Yes.” He spoke simply and began to kiss his beloved mate. He crawled onto her in his imperial bed. No matter where they lay, the passion would have been the same. Their love rivaled any other that had ever come to exist in the mighty universe.

Enshrouded in each other’s bodies, they loved all into the night. Stars grew envious of their passion and moon scowled at their ecstasy. It is suited perfectly that this is how their last love is described, fore this is the way the great scribes spoke of great lovers in legends past, before their demise.

:::::::::

Vegeta woke the next morning to find that Bulma was no longer in his arms. He growled softly, his mate was gone.

“Do you see the sunrise, Vegeta?”

Vegeta turned toward the soft voice that spoke to him. He saw his Kirrorra sitting at his window admiring the golden horizon.

“Yes.”

“I have seen several lifetimes of sunrises.”

“As have I, woman. What does that have to do with anything?”

Bulma turned sharply from the window to face him. She was only wearing a sheet. He put a hand on her face and stroked it gently. But she pushed his hand away.

“Everything, Vegeta. Everything. My son died of old age while I remained youthful. Generations of my family passed before my eyes. I have seen the downfall of my birth planet. Flowers wither and die before my eyes. I have no desire to see stars do the same!”

“Hush, little Kirrorra.” He whispered as he kissed her neck.

“You never could say my name, could you?” she said teasingly.

“Woman, what is the matter?”

She looked into his eyes once more. Love. ‘Vegeta, you always were the late bloomer. Now you are just too late.’

“This.” She said aloud and placed a small object in his large palm.

He looked at it. “NO!” he cried in anguish. But it was too late. He gripped the Ankh is his hand as Bulma, his beautiful Kirrorra, crumbled to dust.

Vegeta closed his eyes as he relished his last few seconds of sanity since she had put on that cursed Ankh.

“Thank you, my Bulma.”

And with his final words, Vegeta turned to dust just as Bulma had.

::::::::::

“The bane of existence. Watch mountains vanish and you will know.”

::::::::

Deep in the mountains of the Planet Kirrorra, the dust had settled and whispers ceased.
