The Ankh:
A Door Opens (Part 1)

Bulma woke up that morning in the sand. She reached a hand up to feel her neck. ‘So it wasn’t a dream then.’

She looked around her, but couldn’t see anyone.

“Vegeta!” She called. There was no answer. “VEGETA, PICCOLO, YAMCHA!!!!”

Then she remembered that Vegeta had spoken in her mind last night and maybe she could as well.

::Vegeta? Where are you?::

::I’m testing my new powers out, woman.::

::Well, I’m scared. Send Yamcha to keep me company.::

::No!::

::Why not?::

:: Fine, I will send the Namek along with him. Now stop bothering me, I must prepare to beat Tarnak.::

::Fine!::

Twenty minutes later Piccolo and Yamcha landed by Bulma. Yamcha knelt by her.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

“Yes, I’m okay and no, he did not hurt me. How are his new powers?”

“He is a million times stronger than Goku was when he went Super Saiyen!”

“Yes, we may stand a chance against Tarnak.” Spoke Piccolo.

Days passed and Vegeta trained. When he was satisfied that he could defeat his opponent he and the others left for Japan. When they arrived there was nothing left. I few smoldering islands were still in sight above the sea level, but nothing else. Bulma and Yamcha cried for their homeland and their people while Piccolo and Vegeta searched for his ki signature elsewhere.

::Come, woman. Tarnak is to the west.::

::My mother, my father!::

::Stop, there is nothing you can do now. We must save other children’s mothers and fathers. Stop weeping and gather yourself.::

::Vegeta? Do you love me?::

::Woman, stop pestering me with these questions. I have no answer for them.::

:: Fine!::

Hours later in Russia…

“Is there no one here strong enough to challenge me?!” cries Tarnak.

“No.” A blunt voice came behind him. Sauntering like a sleek panther, Vegeta comes from gray smoke. His muscles ripple beneath his taunt skin and his eyes burn with the fiery power of an Immortal.

Tarnak’s eyes grow wide in shock and fear. This mighty warrior had never felt this emotion before: this fear. Fear that he had met his match, his death, his end. Pushing this aside he smiled, this man could not defeat him. This man was once an earthling, no earthling could defeat Tarnak the Immortal!

“There is someone on this pathetic planet strong enough to defeat you. Look at the sun, Tarnak, it is last time you will ever see light after I’m done with you.”

“You will never defeat me, earthling.”

“One: I’m not an earthling. Two: I will kill you. And three: How is your face feeling?” With that Vegeta flew at Tarnak in lighting pace and rammed his fist into the monster’s face. Tarnak’s head jerked back and then steadied himself.

“Fine,” He said as he wiped the oozing blue goo (blood?) from his nose. “How’s your’s?”

Then the real fight began. Each of the immortal fiercely beat each other with equal strength, now they would rely on Vegeta to have the stronger stamina.

-meanwhile on the crispy island that is Japan –

Bulma lay in the scorched soil soaked in tears. Both Piccolo and Yamcha knelt by her helpless to do anything. She felt every punch and kick that Tarnak dealt to Vegeta. She knew Vegeta was blocking most of the pain from her, because if she felt each full on impact she would be dead by now. At the beginning she screamed till her voice gave out and now she cried and panted with her raspy voice.

Yamcha damned Vegeta and Piccolo prayed that the fight would end soon. Bulma would die at this rate, and with her dead Vegeta might die also. With Vegeta dead, so would be the earth’s hope.

-back to the fight-

Tarnak rose heavily from the ground.

“I will defeat you.”

Vegeta’s breath came in heavy pants, but at least he could still stand. “I think not, monster.”

Tarnak swung at Vegeta, but connected to his chest with the force of an infant. Now it was Vegeta’s turn to laugh heartily.

“I think I will end this now.”

“No! I am immortal!”

Vegeta formed a large ki ball in his hand. The light it emitted was red, tinged with gold.

“Yea right.” He said as he threw the ball into Tarnak’s stomach. Tarnak doubled over and laughed.

He laughed and laughed.

“What the fuck is so damn funny, monster?!” demanded Vegeta angrilly.

Tarnak stood up strait. A large gaping hole shown where his putrid stomach once rested.

“So this is what they cry for.” Were his final words before his body hit the ground and turned to dust.

“Finally, you fucker.” Grumbled Vegeta. He checked over his wounds, but heard a whimper in his mind.

“Oh fuck! Bulma!” And took to the sky.

:::::

When he arrived he spotted Bulma curled up in a ball.

“What is wrong with her?” Asked Yamcha.

Vegeta didn’t answer, instead he knelt by Bulma trying to find her in his mind.

::Woman?::

“What the fuck did you do to her!?” Yamcha screamed.

::Woman? Where are you?::

::Vegeta?::

::Yes, where are you?::

::Here.::

::Where?::

::It’s dark. In here.::

::Come to me.::

:: I can’t::

::Why not?::

::It’s too scary. It hurts.::

::I promise it won’t hurt anymore.::

::You promised you would never hurt me!::

::I didn’t.::

::Yes you did!::

::No, Tarnak hurt you. He hurt us both. He hurt everyone.::

::Is he still there?::

::No, he is gone. Forever.::

::Sure?::

::Forever, now let us go, woman!::

::Say my name.::

::Bulma, Bulma, Bulma.:: he whispered sweetly in her mind.

Yamcha was still screaming at Vegeta when Bulma awoke with a gasp. Vegeta held her close to his chest whispering her name over and over again in her ear, “Bulma, Bulma, Bulma.”
