Bulma's Life.....Like It Is! And What It Once Was......
Chapter 30: Bulma vs. Vegeta

Free-for-all time......

I grimly followed Vegeta, fiddling with the edges of the faded denim shorts I was wearing. Lela was walking beside me, just a little bit behind, as if she wasn't sure what to say to me. I didn't blame her. One could feel the tension from a mile away. Vegeta was mad that I had let her walk with us, or at least talk to us, and Lela was nervous about being near me. I was nervous also, and suspicious. Most of all, I felt bad for Vegeta, he could no doubt feel it worse than us!

"Uh, where exactly are we going?" Lela asked, scaring both of us. We still weren't used to having another companion.

"Shut up and just follow, or go away, either way, I don't care," Vegeta snapped, immediatly making Lela silent. She shrunk back like a whipped animal. I felt bad for her, so I sped up to talk to Vegeta, or at least try to.

"Vegeta, really. She wants to help us, but whenever you yell at her, she always shrinks back into her shell. How are we going to figure out *anything* about her unless she talks?" I asked, and waited for his answer. I wished he would hurry up, talking in hushed voices in front of Lela wasn't very reassuring.

He shook his head and stopped. "She is a traitor, still! How do you think she found us and wasn't surprised?! She has been informed, by Frieza himself, no doubt! Think about it," He said quietly. "It just doesn't make sense!"

This dawned on me and I looked back at Lela, who was staring at her feet, a very scared look on her chubby face. I shook my head and looked Vegeta in the eyes. "You are probably right, but what if you aren't? Then what would the poor thing do with herself?"

"Who cares? She deserves it for doing what she did! If I were you, I wouldn't even *look* at the girl again!"

"Well, you being your arrogant self, that would be really hard for me."

"Talk all you want, woman, you will never change my mind. The second she screws us over, I will make sure that she doesn't do it again!"

I glared at him, but nodded. I didn't feel like walking near Lela again, not after what Vegeta had pointed out, so I just walked near him till we got to the city. A long walk, I might add. I wished that people on Earth could fly just to save *us* the trouble of hiding Vegeta's powers and horrible temper. It was all I could do to stop him from turning Super Saiyan at some people's behavior.

"No one told us that Miami is *this* big!" I said, frustrated. This meant that I would have to ask for directions. I considered myself the kind of person who liked to do it by myself.

Vegeta snorted and crossed his arms. "Well, what did you expect with *our* luck?!" He sneered, and glanced around at the modern, glassy buildings. Hardly anyone was in town, probably all at the beaches or shopping inside the air-conditioned buildings or the open air markets lining the beaches.

Lela was silent the whole time, just watching back and forth between Vegeta and I as we fought. She was no doubt intimiadated by everything. I would be, if I were her! She just timidly followed.

"Why do you always have to be such an ass?!" I yelled at him, and crossed my arms back, copying his evil stance. He stopped and we stared each other down, neither of us near to backing down. It was ice and fire now.

"Why do you have to always disagree?!" He shouted back, glaring still.

"Because you always have to fight!" I screamed, and glared harder, if that was possible.

"Why do *you* rise to the occasion?" Vegeta asked cooly, knowing that he had pretty much won with that one comment.

I flinched and narrowed my eyes. "I do *not*," I said, my voice trembling a bit. He had hit me hard. Why *did* I rise to it? What was I, some kind of Vegeta-worshipper??!! As *if*!

"Oh, yeah, you just fight to get back at me, sure. You really don't think that I am *that* blind, do you? I haven't spent eight years just not noticing how you act!"

"Really? *You* notice *me*?! That is interesting! I guess we *both* have secrets, Vegeta," I said, and began walking again.

Lela followed me, but Vegeta didn't. He glared at me. I noticed something in his eyes that never had before. I couldn't quite catch it, for he took off into the sky faster than I could see. I shaded my eyes and silently cursed him for leaving me in such a situation. But I knew he would be back once he had cooled off. At least there wouldn't be any more self-dicoveries disguised as fights.

"Do you two *always* fight?" Lela asked, putting her hands on her hips. I guess she was scared of Vegeta rather than me, for she seemed to relax once he was gone.

"Yes. No. I don't know! I haven't seen him for awhile. When we were both on Vegetasei we hardly *ever* fought," I answered.

Lela giggled and smiled knowingly. "How old were you two on Vegetasei again?" She asked, a twinkle in her eyes.

I gave her a suspicious look. "From when I was seven to fifteen."

"And he is two years older?"

"Yes."

Lela giggled and pointed her finger at me, laughing harder. "That is perfectly hilarious!"

I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at her. "What?"

"You two really are so stubborn! It is obvious that," Lela paused dramactically. "You two like each other!"

I paused. Me and Vegeta? No way! How could two people who fought as much as we did *like* each other?! This really was a stupid mistake on Lela's part!

"Face it, Bulma. *You* know it, but Vegeta is having a much harder time dealing with it than *you*. You are pretty headstrong, but he is far worse, why do you think he left us?"

I wanted to cave her round face in for saying all of this and disturbing the perfect fighting atmosphere Vegeta and I shared. What would I do around him now?? Twiddle my thumbs?!

"Lela, you don't know him as well as I do. He doesn't like me, trust me! How could he? He treats me like shit!" I protested, lying through my teeth.

"Fine, Bulma. Don't admit it, but now I think I understand more," Lela said, and walked a little faster. "We have to get directions to wherever your mother is."

I nodded and followed, thoughts of Vegeta lingering.
