Bamburg
A lot of people seem to live in Bamburg who work elsewhere, including a lot of Siemens employees who work in Erlangen. its a nice old town, with lots of old, well preserved buildings. It wasn't bombed at all during WWII and therefore now enjoys World Heritage Site recongition from UNESICO. Persoanlly I think it's an OK town. It's got narrow lanes and old world charm but nothing that really stands out. The castle on the hill got nice view and a very old tower but that's it. This is a great place to listen to classical music, Wagner being the speciality. He had a big concert hall near here, and every year the Wagner festival is the elite thing to go to. You basically have to inherit tickets though.

The Rathaus :One of the gawdiest thinqs i've ever seen. But still pretty nice. Its actually over the river built on two bridges. There is an interesting story about that. There seem to be this old habit of the bishop and prince of the area living on opposite sides of the the river. When it came time to decide which side of the river to build the city hall, both sides wanted on their own side. So an island was made and the city hall built in the middle.

The regnitz river runs right through town. So lots of house have a backyard with boats docked. It's a very beautiful sight, perhaps the most beautiful of the whole town. Many of the owners of the homes has gone all out to create gardens along the shores. Flowers and trees, yes trees. Germans seem apte at growing trees in balconies and everywhere else. You really got to see it.

Outside the Dom : This is a large square at the top of the hill, with the city museum, rosegarden, Dom and other buildings, all in huge imposing grey stonework. Here you just see part of the Dom itself.

The Dom : Inside its a really nice peace of work. Looks better in black and white I think. It's a really big church that once was very powerful. It even has a pope buried in it's chapte. The catheral has two popets. One facing the east and one the west. Now the east side is only for the choire and have concerts. Now how to solve the seatting problem? When the catheral was built, there probably wasn't the concept of seats. But now the seats are such that each seat sits on and up-side down T shaped support with a piece of wood that can be slided back and forth depending on which side the congregation should be facing. Neat.

This little chapel is underneath the Gregorian choir area. As opposed to the jakobian choir area on the other side of the church. ... uhuh

The Rosegarden : These are all up on the terrace where their is a rose garden, providing a wonderful view of the city and St. Michaels church on a nearby hill. It had just rained at this point, so the clouds were clearing and there were rainbows in the distance.
