Toys!
Don't throw that away! First ask yourself, can this be a rat toy?
Try hanging an old shirt up in the corner of your rats cage. At first your rat may be warry, but soon she will be spending all day snozzing in her hamoc. With a new rat use a shirt that smells like you, this could help the rat to bond with you.
Do you have a papper shredder? Shred up some nontoxic, or non printed news paper. Go to any news paper and ask for leftover not printed on papper. They usualy are happy to help, they would just have to through it out anyway. And your rat, of any age, will love to build beds and run through the shredded paper.
Toilet paper and paper towl roles make great hang outs for your smaller rat. Try suspending them to the side of the cage using paper clips, or just put them on the cage floor and let your rat drag it to where she wants it to be.
Ever take out chinees? Check out your rice boxes, perfect for a hanging food dispenser, or rat bed.
Small card board boxes are allways fun to play in, sleep in, and chew windows in too!
Pringles cans! The small, and large cans are great to play in. Your rats will love to run in and out of the can playing 'rat tag' with his buddys.
Penut butter jars are also great to sleep in, and a good idea if you like to always be able to see what your rat is doing.
Milk jugs or cartons. Just clean it out, cut it in half, and find a place in your ratties cage.
Don't forget something to chew on! You can buy wood chips from a pet store, but I like to use popsicale sticks. Just cut them into 4 pieces, and let your rats injoy. Uncooked pasta works great too.
It doesn't need to be called "rat toy" for your rat to enjoy petshop toys.
Ferit hamocs, beds, and toys are great rat furniture.
Bird ladders, branches, and hanging toys are great to decorate your rats home
Any animal toy that looks fun to climb on, in, over, or through will be great fun for your rat. Just be careful with larger animal toys, things that fray, or are are toxic to chew on are bad news.
Running wheels are great for some rats. Just be careful, some wheels have dangerous bars that can squish rattie tails, feet, or heads. The wheel below is a no no. For any long tailed small animal you want to get a solid wheel to run on.  If you can find one the best wheel is solid, and hooks to the side of the cage so there is only one spoke
Have fun! If you have any more "rat toy" ideas, please e-mail me so I can add it to the list.
