"A Charmed Life"
1995-11-13

Did you notice that Episode 10 was named "An Uncharmed Life" and this one was named "A Charmed Life"?

- First of all, let me explain something. Here’s where it gets a little tricky. In the original, there was one big long scene with the Sisters bickering and then Rubeus showing them everything about the new Crystal Point. The dub, instead, ends the scene in the middle of it when Rubeus first arrives and after he says he found a new Crystal Point. The dub then cuts to the moved scene of Minako and Makoto’s fight, then after that Rubeus tells them about the Crystal Point. In other words:

> ORIGINAL:
>> Minako and Makoto fight in the park
>> Ayakashi Sisters argue and Rubeus tells them everything about the new Crystal Point

> DUB:
>> Ayakashi Sisters argue and Rubeus arrives to tell them he found a new Crystal Point.
>> Minako and Makoto fight in the park
>> Rubeus tells the Sisters everything about the new Crystal Point.

> No visible time loss is noted. Now, back to the normal comparison:

- 2:25-2:29 – Minako, waiting for Makoto: “In any case…I can’t believe everyone is flirting in this hot weather!” with shots of couples on the fountain.

- 2:51-2:54 – Makoto has insinuated that Minako is jealous of all the couples in the park. What’s cut is Makoto then saying “It’s a joke! A joke! You’re cute, Minako!”

- 2:59-3:07 – Girls talking about who couldn’t make it to their meeting. Minako says “Rei has to work as a shrine maiden”, and Makoto says “I thought it’d be nice to go shopping with everyone for one…well, what about Usagi?”

- 3:14 – After laughing over the thought of Usagi being early, they become bored and dip their heads.

- 3:23-3:32 – After the title card, a pan down from the sky shows Makoto saying “Usagi sure is late…”, while Minako says “That girl is so hopeless.”

- 3:55-3:56 – After that bully kid in the yellow shirt picks Chibiusa up, she has a sweatdrop and says “He might be kinda scary…” before Minako and Makoto stop him.

- 4:34-4:39 – In the middle of Minako vs. Makoto. Makoto asks “What about you then? Why don’t you find a new love? Watching you as an outsider makes me sad.”

- 6:00-6:03 – Calaveras is teasing Petz about men (who, in the original, HATES men), and says “I would never mention anything about getting dumped by men!”

- 8:11-8:15 – A full-screen shot of the shop the Droids are in. It says “Charms: Your wishes will come perfectly true!”. The dub makes up for this by showing that “Fancy Omazinai House” shot that Rubeus shows the Ayakashi Sisters.

- 8:36-8:51 – The Droid has obviously captured the regular store clerks, stripped them naked, and hung them from the ceiling in spider webs for some reason…four seconds of a black screen and Calaveras’ eyes are part of this cut too. Calaveras’ dialogue: “If it’s for wholehearted love, then amethysts. Diamonds are for love and courage.”

- When Sailor Jupiter and Venus transform with Star Power, instead of editing out the body lines for this transformation, the dub just uses their first transformation (“…Power! Makeup!”) since they already had the body lines erased.

- 16:46 – When Venus goes to kick Petz, we see an upskirt shot that is cut.

- Jupiter’s “Sparkling Wide Pressure!” attack is called “Jupiter Thunderclap Zap!” in the dub.

- Venus’ “Venus Love-Me Chain!” attack is called “Venus Love Chain Encircle!” in the dub.

- When Usagi locks Chibiusa in the storage room, the dub has Luna ask Serena if there’s enough air in there, I guess to please the censors.

- When Usagi does Moon Princess Halation immediately after transforming, she says “What, you’re not going to let me get to say my usual lines?” (“For love and justice, a sailor suited pretty soldier…” …her speech) in the original, nothing special in the dub.

- 21:40-21:46 – Usagi spits the juice she was drinking in Rei’s face.
