"A Knight to Remember"
1995-11-24

Of note, in the Japanese title, "kage" means "shadow", "tsuki" is "moon", and "NAITO"
is the romaji for "knight"; literally "Tsukikage no NAITO" is "Knight of Moon's Shadow. However, it is
translated as "Moonlight Knight" by the official DVDs.

2:14-2:16 – Very first scene, this is cut probably because of the Japanese on the building in the background

2:29-2:30 – Usagi is asking Ami for the questions on a test tomorrow. What’s cut is when Usagi goes “Thanks Ami-chan!” with sparkly eyes and Makoto busts out a little notebook.

2:39-2:49 - After Ami says no, Usagi with the waterworks saying “But the test from Hell is tomorrow, and I’ve been failing everything! I’m feeling like ‘a drowning man will grasp at a rope!’.” [a proverb I guess] Ami says “Usagi, it’s straw, not a rope” and the rope in the bubble turns into straw, and Usagi floats away.

2:55 – Usagi asked Makoto why she came with her. Makoto responds “Oh, well I figured if I asked Ami, I’d be all set for tomorrow’s test too!”. Ami gets a sweatdrop.

4:06 – Dub puts a shot of Lita as she asks Serena and Amy to help Ken (Shinozaki), then a white flash. This is because…

4:07-4:15 – The original Usagi and Ami run over to the top of the stairs, there’s a pan down, and we see Makoto holding a bloody Shinozaki. The scene fades into red to accompany the scenes in the next few seconds (the hospital stretcher, etc)

4:21-4:34 –
Nurse: “Head nurse, we don’t have enough type O blood!”
Head Nurse: “Find some more quickly!”
Nurse: “Yes!”
Makoto: “Oh, I’m type O, please take some of mine!”
Nurse: “We don’t a have a moment to lose! Please hurry!”

This dialogue was, however, scrunched into what remained of the hospital scene in the dub.

4:34-4:38 – The front of the building Ail and Ann are living in is cut.

SCENE SHORTENER:
5:38-5:42 – Ail’s face as he speaks about the Cardian: “No one can stop the turning of fate.”

6:10-6:18 – Ail and Ann kissing before the scene of Makoto in the hospital.

Music in the flashback:
- “Anata no Sei ja Nai” (“It’s Not Your Fault”) in the original
- “Rainy Day Man” in the dub

8:55-9:03 – The last scene in the hospital is cut. The camera zooms in on Makoto, who says “No, but maybe he [Shinozaki]’s far, far more precious to me than even a lover.” We see Ami and Usagi again, who says “Mako-chan…”

9:09-9:14 – At Usagi’s house, Usagi is sitting at her table before Luna arrives saying “I’ll do it too! I’ll restore Mamoru’s memory with my power!”

11:52 – Dub adds a sparkle to the rose Ail shows Usagi.

13:46-13:56 – Usagi sees all the Senshi rushing away from Hikawa Shrine transformed. The cut occurs right before Usagi transforms. She says “You could at least tell me why…I know it’s my fault that I’m late, but…”, and from across the street, Mars goes “You’re such a slowpoke! Hurry up or we’ll leave you behind!” Usagi, looking bored, says “Okay…Moon Prism Power, Makeup!”

19:28 – After a commercial break, the dub usually adds the last few seconds of footage before the break. This was done, and has Falion (the Cardian) having pinned Moon down. The dub also adds a shot of Lita saying “Hey fur face, you hear me? Back off!”

20:46-20:48 – A shot of the name of the hospital in Japanese, reading “Juban General Hospital”, is cut, but made up as the dub pauses on a shot of the building that doesn’t have the sign for the same time.

22:03-22:04 – After being shown the math book by Luna, the last seconds of the episode are cut. Usagi is saying it’s harder than figuring out boys and girls [or Darien and the Moonlight Knight in the dub]. The cut occurs when Usagi gets a sweatdrop, and the episode fades out with the rabbit’s face [Usagi = rabbit].

Of note, in this episode’s Sailor Says, they have shots cut from Episode 40 of the dub (Episode 45 of the original). Usagi has cooked a dinner for her family before she leaves to the final battle with the Dark Kingdom, and they’re wondering “if it’s edible”
