Led by S/Ldr Pietraszkiewicz were Sgt Chudek, F/O Falkowski, Sgt
Kowalski, P/O Kornicki, Sgt Adamiak, F/Lt Czajkowski, Sgt
Jaworski, F/O Wolinski, Sgt Cwynar, P/O Lukaszewicz and P/O Andersz.
A tragic accident happened during the take-off. Sgt Adamiak's Spitfire
crashed into the machine gun position manned by four soldiers of RAF Regiment at
the end of the
airstrip. Two of them died instantly; two others became
seriously injured. The Spitfire's sustained a serious damage.
In this sortie, pilots of the Polish Wing engaged about thirty
Messerschmidts. For 315 scored: F/Lt Czaykowski 1 Bf-109
destroyed, F/O Falkowski 1 Bf-109 destroyed, Sgt Chudek 1 Bf-109
destroyed, S/Ldr Pietraszkiewicz 1 Bf-109 probable and Sgt Cwynar
1 Bf-109 damaged. F/O Wolinski was shot down and killed.
