GENERAL REPORT
I was Blue 1 and leading a Section of four on the starboard of the Squadron. About 10 miles west of Ostend on the way back about 15 E/A were seen to port and slightly above about to attack the Wing. 315 Squadron was then flying at 17.000'. The order was given to turn to port and the enemy was met head-on. In turning my section of four fell behind and at this moment I saw a F.W. 190 leaving a dog-fight which was taking place to starboard and slightly behind. The e/a was flying roughly in the same direction and 3,000' below myself. I immediately dived steeply on it followed Blue 2. I opened fire with my m/g and cannon from about 250 yards when I was dead astern and slightly above. I continued firing until I narrowed distance to 30 yards and had used my cannon with my m/g using deflection. The E/A hovered for a moment then fell steeply away and was lost from my view in mist below. Throughout the time I was firing I saw my cannon shell and m/g bullets entering the cockpit, fuselage and wings. I claim 1 F.W. 190 probably destroyed.
Rounds fired: total cannon 120
total m/g 640
Cine camera not carried.
