Requiem

Many people speak of strange faerie music coming from a variety of natural places; of being drawn to these places by the music and compelled to dance with the Fae. These stories are all a result of Requiem, the mystical Art of music. Legend states that this Art was created by both Orpheus and Talesin, two great Fae bards and musicians.

Unless specifically stated, the effects of this Art last as long as the caster can play.

Some highly adventurous Satyrs have recently discovered that it is possible to cast Requiem cantrips through music that is being played in the environment and use that music as a medium for the Requiem cantrip. This was discovered after lengthy experimentation in nightclubs, live performances, and even through the radio! To do this requires the Realm of where the music is coming from (usually high levels of Prop, but Actor/Fae can be used for singers and Nature can be used through birdsong) and requires spending an additional point of Glamour.

No member of House Leanhaun may ever learn or benefit from this Art. If someone who knows Requiem joins House Leanhaun, the Dreaming erases all memory of it.

Attribute: Charisma

* Fae Piper

This simplistic cnatrip allows the caster to make mysterious music come from all sorts of different places, people or things. It is primarily used to entertain, but can be used to distract or as a way of guiding people to somewhere.

System: The Realm is determined by where the caster wants the music to come from. The location, person or object only needs to be known to the caster. If the Storyteller deems the music unexpected, they may increase penalties for those listening due to the distraction.

By spending an additional point of Glamour, the caster can control where the music comes from to a greater degree, as long as the place where he moves the music is in the original casting Realm and the capabilities of the caster. For example, someone with Nature 2 could, after spending the extra point, shift the music from tree to tree, make the music come from all the trees in the area, or shift it to a stone, but not to an animal (Nature 3) or a park bench (Prop).

Type: Chimerical

** Serenade

It is often said that people who hear Faerie music are inexplicably drawn to it, compelled to come closer by some weird outside force. This cantrip replicates exactly that effect, compelling the target/s to come closer to the player.

System: The Realm determines the target. The number of successes determine how many people can be drawn to the caster, assuming that they are in hearing range of the music. Those drawn to the caster stop once they reach a direct line-of-sight with the caster, though the caster is allowed to move around while playing, in order to lead the listeners somewhere. This cantrip can be combined with Fae Piper to produce a wide variety of results - if either cantrip is cast after the other, the second cantrip recieves -1 to its difficulty.

1 success: 1 person
2 successes: up to 5 people
3 successes: up to 10 people
4 successes: up to 20 people
5 successes: everyone capable of hearing the music.

Type: Chimerical

*** Invocation

Using this cantrip and playing or singing, a changeling may invoke an emotion in the listeners. Since Invocation involves the amplification of emotion rather than the creation of emotion, Invoking an emotion will not work on beings without emotions.

System: The Realm determines the target. Successes can be split between the depth of emotion and its duration. Multiple castings are cumulative, but only one emotion may be Invoked at any time. The emotions Invoked is felt on the surface only, although higher amounts of successes can deeply imbed this emotion.

People with a Banality of 8 or higher are immune to this cantrip.

Type: Chimerical

**** Bolero/Nocturne

This potent cantrip has two quite different uses. Bolero causes the target to conduct a frantic, frenzied dance that gradually weakens them. Casting Nocturne causes the target to become intensely drowsy, possibly even fall asleep.

System: The Realm determines the target.

If casting Bolero, each success results in 1 wound as the target begins a frenzied dance. This damage can be resisted by a Stamina roll, with a difficulty of the casters' Glamour. Each turn the caster wishes to continue playing Bolero, the casting roll must be done again, with the number of successes the damage that person takes. The target is helpless, and all other actions attempted during the dance are at +3 difficulty.

If casting Nocturne, each success drops all dice pools of the target by 1, which can be resisted by a Stamina roll against the caster's Glamour. Successes may be accumulated each turn by re-rolling the casting dice pool, and if the caster gains more total successes than the target's Willpower, the target falls asleep. If the changeling stops playing before the target falls asleep, the penalties wear off after a number of hours equal to the penalty at the rate of one dice per hour (so a 5 dice penalty wears off after 5 hours).

***** Composition

The ultimate in musical power, this cantrip allows the caster to create images from music and imagination. Chimera can be created with this, but it takes time and effort. If a story is attached to a piece of music (such as Peter and the Wolf), it is also possible to use this cantrip to recreate the story, adding further entertainment value. If there is no story, this cantrip can also create 'eye candy' in synch with the music.

System: The Realm and casting constraints vary depending on what you are planning on doing. If you are simply using it to augment a musical piece (either by telling the story or creating visual displays) you will only need the Scene Realm, since this use is area-effect by default. Successes increase the complexity and realism of the displays, and they are fully visible to everyone in the area.

The creation of chimera requires a more lengthy process. The only Realm that can be used is Fae 5 (Dweomer of Glamour), and each success equates to one chimera point. The music can be played as long as is desired, and the dice rolling is extended but every fifth success costs the caster a point of Glamour. This cantrip is very labour intensive - botching it will almost always be disastrous and the Storyteller has free reign over what will happen.

It is impossible to create chimera by casting this 'through' music.

Type: Wyrd

Appropriate Bunks for Requiem

Aside from either singing or playing an instrument, dance, strange movements and other creative things that can be done in conjunction with singing or playing may be used as bunks. If it is being cast 'through' music, practically anything will do as the bunk.
