As with most clubs, you will find that the more you participate in the club's activities; the more rewarding it is in being a member of the club. The membership is interested in promoting the old car hobby and has a wide variety of old vehicles.
The club publishes a monthly newsletter to keep you informed of future club activities and other information to promote the good of the club. As a member you should feel free to contact the editor (Alphy) to place an ad to sell or locate automotive related items.
There is a board/general meeting of the club each month, held at a local restaurant that accommodates us with a meeting room and dinner if we so desire. (Usually the Director/President makes the arrangements. He/She tries to rotate, so that we have more of a variety and not dining out at the same place) This give the member a chance to get to know one another and makes it an enjoyable evening.
The club usually has at least one activity each month. Typical activities include picnics, car collections, pot lucks, home bar-b-ques, restoration shops and joint outings with other car clubs; annual Laughlin trip, just to list a few. We have a chairperson (Vice Director/Vice President) on the board who usually heads up these activities and then notifies the editor and the telephone committee to notify the members by phone or newsletter.
We also have a monthly Cruise Night, held the second Saturday of each month sponsored by Siggy's in Murrieta.
When asked by local groups (in the community) to supply old cars (classic's/antique's) for their functions; we try to be responsive.
TVCC is a region of the Contemporary Historical Vehicle Association (CHVA) which is our national organization.
Each year there is a CHVA National Tour which is hosted by various regions throughout the United States. In addition; for the past several years there has been a West Coast Mini Tour that covers areas in the Western United States. Both tours are typically about a week long and as a member you are eligible to participate in these tours.
We hope the above information give you an overview of what Temecula Valley Car Club is all about!
The summer of 1986 was the springboard for the Temecula Valley Car Club. Bud and Marge Gilroy had been asking about a car club. They met Jake and Karen Jacobs, who introduced them to Bob and Jeri Pope and Craig and Andy Thoxalls. They all have varied types of cars.
The first meeting was at the Gilroy's. It was decided to approach Dick and Nancy Benjamin to see if they could set up a table at the famous CHVA Father's Day Car Show. The show as being held at the Rancho Plaza which used to be the Safeway (now Von's) parking lot. Permission was given and they put up a big sign asking "are you interested in a local car club?" By the end of the day 62 people had signed their register.
A pot luck dinner was held at the Glen Oaks Clubhouse and 37 couples came. As the club developed, for insurance purposes it was voted upon to join the CHVA. Since then we have grown to 90 to 100 members and spawned a CHVA Chapter in Hemet (Vallley Cruisers').
The Club has natured into a very busy and interesting group. We enjoy tours, potluck's, cruise's and fellowship with the many automobilists in this area.
