Chapter Four
CANDY AND LIES

CLAIMER: Okay, this feels so different writing such a thing. *hehe* This is just to let you know that Angelica, Marius, and Paz belong to me.

A/N: Okay, just to clear up some things: I get the feeling that some people reading this story think that -my- Marius is the Marius dreamed up by the WONDERFUL Anne Rice. This is NOT the case! I only liked the name, and when I tried it out it fit all too well. I will bow to Mrs. Rice's plea and not write anything associated with ANY of her stories/characters. I am nowhere NEAR good enough to write anything based on her beautiful characters...I've tried. Didn't work.

In short: Marius is mine, not Mrs. Rice's. Promise!

"Marius...I love you." There. She'd said it: those three little words that had been occupying the most minuscule of spaces in her head. She never dreamt it would be that hard to say, yet it seemed to Paz to be the hardest thing she'd ever done.

Marius looked at Paz incredulously, all of the anger fleeing from his face.

"You...what?" Marius' blue eyes begged Paz to say it again...he needed to hear it again.

"I love you, Marius," She replied in a whisper. "I didn't think it would be that hard but..."

Marius silenced her with a kiss. Finally, she had realized her destiny. The two of them were meant to be together, and Marius had known it all of the years he had watched over her. With their kiss, all of his dreams had been realized. Their kiss made him feel as if they two were melting into one being, their hearts and souls binding together, and just as they reached the tip of their feelings for each other, a dark presence embedded itself into his mind's eye, calling to him to pull away from the love he'd found in Paz Johnson.

"Marius." A dark, feminine voice hissed in the moonlight. Paz and Marius parted lips and Marius turned slowly as he watched Paz's jaw drop. His worst fears were realized as he took in the sight of the woman in the blue velvet dress standing before him.

"Angelica."

Paz noticed the temperature drop about twenty degrees as the two vampires stared into each other's eyes, seemingly ready to fight each other to the death.

“You have disgraced me, Marius,” The vampyress shook her head and cast her eyes to the concrete walk.

I have disgraced you, Angelica? I think not. You left me on my own; to fend for myself. How is it that I have disgraced you when you taught me nothing?”

“I taught you to live…”

“You taught me naught! All I have become I learned on my own!”

Bollocks!” She spat, her eyes flashing a powerful shade of amber and Paz stepped back, a shudder wracking her tiny frame. Despite the vampyress’ dramatic cries trying to convince her childe that she had created him and from the moment of his creation had taught him everything that she knew, she made no leeway in convincing the spirited vampire that he was everything that she was. The ancient vampyress sighed, seemingly defeated, and spoke coldly. “This is not over, Childe.”

“And I will be awaiting your return, Vampyress. You will not win.” Marius snarled as the vampyress flashed her amber eyes at Paz.

“You, mortal, will not survive this war.” She spoke coldly, the maniacal look in her eyes sending a chill down Paz’s spine.

Paz felt a sudden surge of strength in her heart and took in a deep breath. “I assure you, I’ll put up a better fight than you can ever imagine from a mortal.”

Angelica laughed, her once-again iridescent jade eyes not even bothering to conceal her amusement. “Very well, if you think you are capable of rivaling the Samurais of Japan…do try, my dear, do try.” Angelica turned back to her Childe. “Marius, just remember this won’t be easy. You have chosen the hard path in this confrontation.”

Marius nodded. “I understand, and I will be prepared.”

“Very well, you have chosen, Marius. Just keep in mind that your lover doles out merely candy and lies.” With that, Angelica disappeared into the cool night and left Marius and Paz to themselves.

“What did that mean, Marius?” She inquired shakily, the bravado she'd felt moments before gone with the kiss of the wind.

The vampire was silent, musing over the reunion with his ‘Sire’, if one could call her his Sire. He heard Paz, he truly did, but he was in no frame of mind to answer her. He glanced over and saw the woman he loved shaking with fear, her arms wrapped around herself. He knew that she had every right to be afraid, for the return of Angelica meant one thing.

Death.
