The Chronicles of Riddick:
Risk Everything
Two
“R…Riddick?” Kyra breathed and her eyes lit up as she recognized the man in front of her. He had left her once, but not again. Or had he? “But I…how did you?”
“I lost you, Kyra. But not for long,” he replied as he unchained her other wrist before taking the girl in his arms.
Kyra had barely bent forward when she felt a burning pain in her chest and jerked out of the embrace sharply. Clutching her stomach, Kyra fell back to the headboard of the bed, and Riddick’s eyes narrowed.
“What the hell is going on, Kyra? Why did you say those things? And what the fuck is that?” Riddick reached for her middle, and Kyra collapsed against the headboard. She had no choice but to let him feel of battered stomach. Riddick stopped before his fingers touched her stomach and looked up at her face. Her eyes remained downcast. “I once knew a girl that would kill me before I was even halfway here. What happened to her?”
“She died,” Kyra replied dryly.
Riddick shot straight up and growled, “Not funny, Kyra.”
“I didn’t mean it to be,” she brought venomous eyes up to Riddick, and he wondered again what had been done to her. “I’ve been…awake…for about a week now, I guess. Every night was a new bedroom. I was always blindfolded, so I never knew who…The first night, I was able to get the blindfold off, but I ripped the hair from my head in the process. I ghosted the fucker before he could do whatever he was gonna.”
Somehow Riddick knew that he wasn’t going to like this story, and he could feel the rage bubbling up inside him.
“I got away, but they caught up with me in about five minutes. I still don’t know my way around this place, and I felt like I’d been drugged with something. I felt shaky and my legs were weak. I didn’t have anything to defend myself with.
“The next night was different. They blindfolded me again, but they tied my hands and feet this time. My hands were at the head board, my feet at the footboard…and then he…” Kyra broke down into a sob that she had tried her hardest to hold in.
Riddick’s eyes glazed with fury as Kyra’s eyes welled up with tears.
“He raped you, didn’t he? The fucker raped you!” Riddick shouted, and he punched the wall to the right side of the bed with an animalistic snarl, leaving a gaping hole about six inches in diameter in his wake.
Kyra nodded behind him, praying that Riddick would kill them all. She didn’t want at all to finish her story. She prayed to herself that he wouldn’t make her.
Riddick fumed to himself as he faced the other direction. How…why would they do such a thing? Did they mean to hurt him by doing this? Riddick had to find out who had done this…and why. Never again would they hurt her; he would rather die first.
Riddick turned and looked at Kyra, the rage foaming in his eyes.
“Who did this, Kyra? Who brought you here?”
“I don’t really…” Kyra’s eyes rolled up in her head, and she heard voices. She whimpered, and Riddick flung himself to the bedside and untied her other wrist. He enveloped her in a soft hug, wary of the pain he knew would make her pass out from what he guessed were broken ribs. “Vaako,” she choked out through quiet sobs. “That’s all that I can remember. The name is Vaako.”
Riddick stood and placed a hand on her head. “You stay here, Kyra. I’ve got some things to take care of. I’ll get you something for the pain while I’m out.” He glanced around, took a step toward the door and paused. “The shower is in there, if you feel strong enough. Clap once to turn on the television, if you want it. There are movie discs in the tower to the right of it. I think you can figure the rest of it out, right?”
Kyra nodded, and moved to sit up. “Riddick?”
Riddick pulled the goggles up from his shined eyes and looked at her curiously. “Yeah?”
“I missed you. Thank you…for helping me…and for not giving up,” she whispered.
The corners of Riddick’s mouth turned up in a somewhat-forced smile. “Yeah. No problem. One other thing…there’s clothes in the top drawer of the dresser. Have something other than that on by the time I get back, would you? I don’t want anything else happening to you while I’m not around.”
Riddick gave her one last glance before he pulled the goggles back over his eyes and pounded his fist against the ‘door open’ plate on the wall. This would not cut it. He was going to have a word with Vaako. No one was going to even think about touching Kyra again against his will.
