Iteration I
She rests her head on her arm
And looks across the room at me.
I meet her gaze: that of two strangers,
uncertain of themselves,
trying to find someone alike.
She flashes a smile
and I am at her side as fast as the crowd allows.
We fall into talking, breaking the ice,
then venturing into the tepid water
of our respective lives.
"I'll call you."
"I'll see you later."
And we do.
That first meeting was just the beginning.
And neither of us knew how long it would continue.
Iteration II
She rests her head on my shoulder
and inclines her head to look at me.
I meet her gaze: that of two friends,
uncertain of their relationship,
Trying to see their emotions echoed back.
I break into a smile
and she nestles against me and smiles back.
We fall into hugging,
giving in to emotion,
and allowing each other into our lives.
"I really like you."
"I think we're more than friends."
And we are.
Our first kiss was just the beginning.
And neither of us knew how long it would continue.
Iteration III
She rests her head on my chest
and I stroke her hair as I look at her.
She meets my gaze: that of two lovers
caught up in the aftermath of their bliss,
Seeing the afterglow on each other's faces.
She gives a smile
and snuggles into me.
We fall into cuddling,
our naked bodies basking in our mutual glow,
and making our lives brighter for it.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
And we do.
Our first lovemaking was just the beginning,
And neither of us saw an end in sight.
Iteration IV
She rests her head on her fists
and glares at me across the room.
I meet her gaze: that of two lovers
looking straight at the other,
And not being able to see eye to eye.
She gives a sigh
and sits back away from me.
We fall into arguing,
our voices rising in anger,
and casting dark clouds across our lives.
"I can't believe you!"
"I don't know why I'm still with you!"
And we don't.
Our first argument was just the beginning,
vividly bringing an end into sight.
Iteration V
She rests her head on the doorframe
and stares at me in disbelief.
I meet her gaze: that of two lovers
realizing what they're about to lose,
And seeing their own fear and desperation mirrored.
She gives a sob
and rushes into my outstretched arms.
We fall into crying,
reconciling our differences,
and lunging to bring the other back into our lives.
"I'm so sorry."
"I can't live without you."
And we can't.
Our first reconciliation was just the beginning,
of ignoring the end that threatens to come into sight.
Iteration VI
She rests her head on her Dad's shoulder
and radiates love across the room.
I meet her gaze: that of two lovers
nervous and giddy with anticipation,
of pledging their undying love.
Her Dad gives her away
and she stands beside me.
We fall into the ceremony,
exchanging vows of love and faith,
and tying our lives together.
"I do."
"I do."
And we do.
Our wedding was just the beginning,
and there won't be an end into sight.
