I like movies and I have watched quite a few. When I came to compiling a list, I found great difficulty in trying to categorize or even narrow down my "favourite" movie. I decided on two lists: The Shelley's 10 most watched movies and then Shelley's top ten favourites. These may change as I think about it more. Here they are:
Shelley's
10 Most Watched Movies:
( from most to least)
1. The
Adventures of Robin Hood
(Karen informs me I used
to watch it everyday after school for a while-nah)
2. The
Original Star Wars Trilogy
(With "Return of the Jedi
being the one I watched most-I grouped them together to save space on the
list)
3.
The Princess Bride
(The fact that my entire family could act out the whole thing is testament
to this)
4.
The Court Jester/The Inspector General
( Two Danny Kaye movies--The
pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pessel...I could go on,
but I won't)
5.
Flight of the Navigator
(Not well known, but a
family favourite-You crashed while looking at flowers? Sounds like
you're the inferior species!!))
6.
Dumbo
(A laughable tear-jerker. We tested the freeze frame abilities of
the VCR in the scene where Dumbo and Timothy get drunk--try it you'll laugh)
7.
Captain Blood
( Another Erroyl Flynn/Olivia
D'Havailland adventure movie. So I like the classics!)
8.
The Little Mermaid/An American Tale II: Fieval Goes West
(During my babysitting
days. I could include Peter Pan, the cartoon Robin Hood and Ninja
Turtles here too, but I'm not proud of it)
9.
Yellow Submarine
{Where
I must have developed my love for Beatle music, where you learn all you
need is love to defeat the blue meanies, a push of a button can have
drastic consequences and where I learned PhD is pronounced "PHUD"--the
inspiration for the fish of the same name (see Bonnie's World)}
10.
The Three Muskeeters/ The Man in The Iron Mask
( The ones I have probably
watched most in recent years, but they can't catch up with years of childhood
movie watching--yet)
Shelley's Top Ten All-Time Favourites
1.
The Original Star Wars
(It's
engrained in my life-I wanted to be Luke)
2.
The Princess Bride
(It
has it all...fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases,
escapes, true love, miracles, and a pretty cute farm boy)
3.
The Adventures of Robin Hood
(full
of heroics and comedy...and erroyl flynn-dashing on screen if not in real
life)
4. The
Man in the Iron Mask
(
great soundtrack, perfect casting, except Leo DeCrap, and a better ending
than the original novel)
5.
The Court Jester
( a spoof on adventure movies, good comedic songs and hilarious situations)
6.
Amadeus
(and
excellent attempt to explain the man behind the music and full of costumes
of the period)
7. The
Scarlett Pimpernel
(a really old movie with
Leslie Howard-They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies
seek him everywhere...)
8.
A Night at the Opera
(the
marx bros. - geniuses of comedy and very musically talented as well)
9.
The Hunt for Red October
(I
love sub movies and this is one of the best)
10. My Fair Lady
(
I had to have on musical on the list-The rain in spain falls mainly on
the plains-isn't it loverly...)
