Parent Newsletter Seventh Grade Social Studies WINTER 2006
The 7th grade Social Studies
teachers are excited to be working with your children this school
year. While we are doing everything in our power to ensure that
your child has a successful year, we encourage you to take an active role in your child's academic
endeavors. Please check his or her Student Agendas on a regular
basis to stay informed of what is expected of your child in Social
Studies class. We have great things in store for the year, and we will
continue to keep you updated on what we are doing. As we work through the third quarter of the 2006-2007 school year, it is important that students and parents alike are aware that in order to maintain or improve academic standing in Social Studies, students must strive to be active learners who value the importance of homework, classwork, and participation. As the school year progresses, please encourage your child to check-in with each of his or her teachers regularly . Extra-help is held every Monday-Thursday, except when school business prevents the teacher form being available (faculty meetings, Professional Development, Hall-Sweep, etc.) Seventh grade social studies is all about critical thinking skills. A child's ability to not only to access and recall information, but to use that information to develop their own questions, ideas and understanding of it is the mark of an active and maturing learner. Please reinforce these skills with your children at home. All Seventh Grade students are have been studying events leading to and including the American Revolution. Following will be a study of the challenges faced by a new nation. Most exciting will be our study of the development and continued function of our Constitution and the issues surrounding this amazing document.
