Our Parish
The Parish of St George & St Martin was founded in
1923 by Fr (later Canon) Martin Power, who served as parish
priest until 1968, when he collapsed and died at the altar while saying
Mass on the Feast of the Epiphany.
The Church was completed in 1928 and consecrated in
1935.
The Parish serves and area of terraced housing in its
immediate vicinity, and also a large modern housing estate, built mostly
in the 1990s.
The Catholic Population of the Parish is 1,100.
Parishioners come from a variety of backgrounds, with a signifcant
minority of Italian origin.
The present Parish Priest, Fr Michael Minors O.D.C.,
arrived in 1999.
