The Royal Canadian Legion - Branch # 277 Our U.N. Wall |
![]() |
Jim Smith and several members of Legion 277 in Sherwood Park worked diligently to erect a U.N. Wall, in the Legion dedicated to our Peace Keepers. Branch 277 is one of the first Legion branches to honor our Peace Keepers in such a grand way. All the places in the world that our Peace Keepers have served is annotated with a small Canadian Flag stick pin on a huge map of the world at it's center. Since the commitment to the U.N. that then Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson made on our behalf, in the late fifties, Canada has formed the basis for all United Nations Peace Keeping efforts in the world. Above the map are the names of all the Peace Keepers from Canada, who have fallen in the line of duty since 1957 to the present day. The five Core Military Flags (Air Core, Armored Core, Artillery Core, Naval Core, Medical Core) as well as the Canadian Flag, the UN Flag, and the Union Jack flank The Map and the Honor Roll of our fallen Peace Keepers. We would like to thank the "Lord Strathcona Light Horse Regiment" out of Calgary for helping us gather together all the flags and obtaining the map. Another thank you also goes to our local Peace Keepers who helped supply the information for the map and the names of their fallen comrades. |
