Field Equipment and Shop Equipment (click to enlarge photos)

For the field

You will need a field box to carry your field equipment, you can make your own or buy one. Plain or fancy, it's up to you.

The most important piece of field equipment is the voltmeter or a loaded multimeter, used to measure your nicad battery strength. Have you done your nicad home work?

Another essential piece of field equipment is the model restraint. This is an example of one type. This is the standard model. This holds your plane during starting and prevents accidents. You can buy one or make one. This one is called the "Aero Mate" made by Midwest Products.

Another essential piece of field equipment is the channel / frequency board tag. This is an example of one type. All clubs use a channel / frequency board system, not all channel / frequency boards are the same. Insure you understand the channel / frequency board  system at your club field before you show up at the field. Mistakes here often lead to crashes.

Most trainer aircraft use a glow engine.

You will need a way to carry fuel to the field, metal fuel cans should not be used as a short from a battery may cause a fire. You will also need a way to get the fuel from the can to the tank in the plane, pumps can be a squeeze bulb, syringe, hand pump, electric pump

You will have to get your engine started

I recommend a glow plug lighter with no leads (leads get caught in the prop)

Some use a glove or a wooden stick called a "chicken stick" to flip the prop over, using a bare finger leads to cut and bruised finger. You can also buy a 12v starter.

Depending on the number of electrical accessories you buy, you will have to buy a battery to power these accessories. Some use a 12V motor cycle or gel cell battery and run the accessories through a "power panel that goes on your field box. Some hook the accessories direct to a 12v garden tractor battery ($25.00 at Walmart)
