Junior Dinghy Weekend - Coveney Cup Regatta 2006 29th/30th October 2006 The Coveney Cup Regatta took place at the RCYC over the October Bank Holiday Weekend. A great weekend was had by all. Racing took place on Sunday and Monday. This was the first year for some time that there was racing on both days of this event. For the past few years, racing has only taken place on one of the days due to either heavy wind or the lack of wind. All the Junior fleets - Optimists, Lasers, 420’s and Mirrors competed in the Regatta. The Coveney Cup Regatta is an open event and there was a large representation from the Mirror Worlds Team who will be competing in South Africa in January 2007. Mike Hill and his son Adam travelled from Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, won each of the six races in the series, and took the Coveney Cup back to Portadown. Mike is one to watch when the Mirror World Championships commence in Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth, South Africa on 12th January 2007. Mike Boylan and Niall Collins from Skerries Sailing Club were in second place. Paul Amerlynck and Melissa Daly also from Skerries Sailing Club finished in third position. The Silver Fleet was won by Olivia Egan and Anne Sweeney from Lough Derg Yacht Club. Local sailors Laura and Louise McCarthy won the Bronze Fleet. The Optimist Fleet was won by Isabella Moorehead. Robbie English was second, Kirsti O’Flynn was third and Alexandra Moorehead finished fourth. Jordan Hunt from Kinsale Yacht Club won the Laser 4.7 fleet with Maeve Counihan from Tralee Bay Sailing Club Fenit finishing second. Rob Lehane and Dave Kennefick were first in the 420’s.
