Broken Hearted Cowboy The Cowboy rides on, his horse moving slow Tears in his eyes, head hung low He feels a pain deeper than any bullet Wishing that he would just die rather than live with it The pain of another broken heart The dread and fear of making again a new start He left behind the woman of his dreams Setting her free of his binding chains She sits alone, thinking of the past Of the good times and bad, how it all went so fast Tears fill her eyes, for freedom has it's price The price was yet another year of her life He makes camp along the river Night falls and he begins to shiver Not from the dark and cold But from the lonliness of growing old He's watched as the times have changed How he's always survived day by day As the tears from his eyes again fall He realizes that he's given up and given his all So he'll sleep once again on the cold hard ground Wishing, hoping, dreaming she was still around But ride together, just his pony and he Lonesome and broken hearted, forever he'll be Darrin L.
