The Old Cowboy The old Cowboy stumbles down the road People turn their eyes away No one offers to take him in from the cold They all just send him on his way If only they would take some time To listen to the stories he has to tell To see the pain and sorrow in his eyes How they could tell them about his living hell Of the times of being run down And chased out of his own hometown How he's loved only to lose everything Of his dreams of a life with meaning How he wishes that he could return to the days of old When he always had a special someone to hold To touch her skin and kiss her lips How she would always pick him up when he slipped But the bottle took it's toll Turning him into someone she didn't know And with every sip of the whiskey he drank Further away from her love he sank Not seeing what he was doing wrong Until it was lost and she was gone Now he wanders from town to town Always sinking lower, always on his way down If only someone would give him a chance Not look away or give an unapproving glance Perhaps he could restore the life he once loved And secure his place in heaven above Darrin L.
