A Worldwide Celebration of Thrangu Rinpoche's

75th Birthday was held on November 20th , 2007

Quoted from the Vajra Vidya Retreat Center Newsletter - 10/6/07

This year the senior monks at Thrangu Monastery in Nepal are inviting Thrangu Rinpoche's students from all over the world to come celebrate Rinpoche's 75th Birthday at Namo Buddha. Namo Buddha is revered as the location where Buddha Shakyamuni in a previous lifetime offered his body to a hungry tigress so that she could feed her five cubs. A stupa at Namo Buddha contains relics of his bones.

Thrangu Rinpoche has a new, large monastery at this very holy place which is why it was selected for the birthday celebration. Events will include the Tsedrup Sangdu Puja (Longevity Puja) held for Rinpoche's long life, which begins on November 17th and continues for 3 days ending on Rinpoche's birthday November 20th.

On November 21st there was an Amitayus Empowerment followed by thanksgiving and a picnic with Rinpoche. Lama Dances will also be performed as part of the events of the celebration.

Because of Rinpoche's busy schedule and traveling around the world teaching, this is the first time that a celebration is being planned for all of Rinpoche's students from around the world to come celebrate together. The senior lamas have requested that all of Rinpoche's resident lamas at centers around the world come to Nepal to celebrate in unison the birthday of their beloved teacher and pray for his continued long life.

Lama Wangdu in Crestone, CO at the Vajra Vidya Retreat Center has also offered to hand-carry group birthday cards for Rinpoche from his individual centers and study groups in the states. Lama asks that anyone wishing to send Rinpoche a birthday greeting or money offering to please do this as part of the group with whom you are most affiliated. Because of space limitations, Lama regrets that he cannot carry cards from individuals or other kinds of gifts. So please contact your group leader or us at VVRC to join in signing a group birthday card for Rinpoche. Lama Wangdu wants to help make it possible for everyone to be able to share in Rinpoche's birthday celebration in some way! Also, this will be a very expensive trip for Lama Wangdu so, if you would like to help sponsor Lama Wangdu's trip and the offerings that he made, please send your donation by check to VVRC with the check made out to "Lama Wangdu" and marked for this purpose. He has not returned to his home in Nepal since he came to VVRC over two years ago!
