WFSS-FM 91.9 History

Broadcasting from the campus of Fayetteville State University, WFSS serves as the public radio affiliate for the Sandhills, but its 100,000-watt signal is easily received in the Research Triangle area. WFSS signed on the air in 1977 with 10 watts at 89.1 FM, boosting their output to 100,000 watts in 1983. In the 1990s they moved up the dial to 91.9 to facilitate a power upgrade for Shaw University's WSHA.
