WHPE-FM 95.5 History

In November of 1947, the High Point Enterprise newspaper signed on WHPE-FM 95.5, the sister station to WHPE 1070 (now WGOS) which just signed on in June of that year. WHPE had a pre-BBN religious format in the 1960s and later played Top 40 until October 13 th, 1974, when the station became the second station in the then-Norfolk, Virginia-based Bible Broadcasting Network. On October 28th, 1986, the WHPE studios were destroyed by an arsonist just prior to a station findraiser. WHPE is heard well in the central and western parts of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill market.
